    XP also for me

  5. Linux all the way. Unless you're running a server or something, memory-hogging security apps are usually not necessary...

(Gentoo specifically, though I'll need a better computer to run it... With Slackware coming in second courtesy of Swaret. Maybe I should try Arch or Crux if I want .tgz-based package management... I also should try out *BSD at some point.)

I'm lucky to have used most of the operating systems at some time or other for a decent period of time. I think windows is easier to use compared to linux, however I like how linux works and looks.

I second the os/390 entry, but my power supply will not last. So it will be linux for me.
I don't like xp. I have had lots of trouble helping friends to getting their systems running XP. Hardware drivers, firewalls, modems, ohhh my.... Why is it so hard.
I haven't had one xp installation run smoothly  Glad that my friends don't give up on me.

    Go, Ubuntu linux!

To Date.....have refused to even consider XP to even be an operating system...it seems more like "crippled ware"....(like crippled freeware...buy the product an it then works..only with XP you purchase the product then it just gets worse) constantly in need of repair...which is just about the same with all M$ products...except some have been around long enough to be: patched....tweaked....an dipped in special oil made by un-known monks somewhere in the Land of OZ

sooooooooo..with that in mind.....linux would be my first choice....mandrake preferred....by alast........the world seems to enjoy the pain that M$ renders....an continues requiring the use of the M$ wannabe OS........so, winME is my M$ preferred OS...with 98se or 2k.......winME requires much tweaking...but once set...works very well....contrary to what many winME users would say about it

an NO...am not bashing M$...thats been done enough over the years.....am just expressing my opinion.........cause the topic asked..

Linux certainly runs easier. Thank the lord for generic drivers.

    Hi,

I love Linuk But I have never been able to connect to the internet with it with my USB modem, have be playing with Fedora Core [FC3 and it is great, it has everything you could need, even my graphic and sound drivers, but sadly I sill can not get it to connect, if I could [connect] I could really get to learn Linuk.

So I use both 2K and XP, I like 2K because of it lightness compared to XP, but I like XP because of its speed.

But most I like Linuk it as it all and it Free. [like most everybody spent Hundreds on M$, well more then a Thousend pounds [Dos,95, 98, NT4, 2K now XP] and soon Longhorn will be here £££££.

    Take Care,
    TheQuest

PS: Any help from a Linuk user would be very a big help, there is a post on making a kernel driver for my USB modem but it is beyond me, [I can not seem to make it work.]:- USB Modem

I have Win XP Pro Corp SP2 running and the only problem I have encountered so far is with the Wireless Zero service.

winxp pro here, simply because I love the interfase, the hardware support and the fact that I know it by now...

a little scared to use linux or something similar but if I would try something else it would be the new suse linux 9, I think I would love that too.
