Overwriting Split Images

What follows is a transcript of e-mails between myself and Acronis Support (Query No. #147170). A lengthy post I know but it might just prevent someone else falling into the same trap.

Hi Support,

I'm using TI 8.0 and have noticed a problem regarding existing TI full
image files not being overwritten correctly. I had hoped this would be
addressed in Build 771 but that proved not to be the case. Symptoms are
as follows:

1. I create a full image of my C: drive active partition (NTFS) to my D:
drive (FAT32) titled "TIbak.tib". Image splits into 2 volumes because of
the 4GB FAT32 limit and are titled "TIbak1.tib" and "TIbak2.tib". No
problem.

2. I create another full image of my active partition and choose to
overwrite the existing image (selected "TIbak1.tib" as the new image
title). New image splits into 2 volumes again but are automatically
incremented to read "TIbak11.tib" (vol 1) and "TIbak12.tib" (vol 2).
The original "TIbak1.tib" (vol 1) is overwritten but "TIbak2.tib" (vol
2) isn't. I'm therefore left with vol 1 and 2 of the new image plus vol
2 of the original.

3. I create yet a further full image, this time choosing TIbak11.tib as
the title for the new image. Again the latest image title is
automatically incremented and reads "TIbak111.tib" (vol 1) and
TIbak112.tib" (vol 2), in the process overwriting TIback11.tib" (vol 1)
but leaving behind "TIbak12.tib" (vol 2 of the previous image) . I now
have a total of 4 tib files on my D: drive; Vol 1 and 2 of the latest
image + vol 2 of the previous image + vol 2 of the original image.

The above effect is repeated for each new image, which isn't desirable
as I would soon run out of space on my D: drive unless previous images
were deleted before creating new ones. Incidentally, it's the same if I
select volume 2 of a previous image as the new image title, only this
time it's the previous vol 1 that's left behind.

Are you able to reproduce the above symptoms? If not, can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? If you can reproduce these symptoms, will Acronis provide a fix in a future build?

Could you please try to create first TIbak.tib. Then you will see two files : TIbak1.tib and TIbak2.tib. Then for second time please try to create image again and call this image as TIbak.tib. If problem still persists write us.

Hi Ivan,

Many thanks for your prompt response. The method you propose has worked. However, I do feel that the wording in the Create Image Wizard (see attached screen dump "Image Wiz.jpg") is somewhat misleading as TI will only overwrite the selected volume of a split image. If the program behavior can't be modified then perhaps the wording in the Wizard can be changed (also para 4.3 of the User Manual).
