My computer has definitely been hijacked- the most common thing that appears is "allaboutsearching.com"....it takes over my home page. Also, every time that I reboot, a folder appears in my program files that is named "hold long jugs", and contains Cash Each.exe o_O Also, my favorites list continually changes, and adds hundreds of new bookmarks: gambling, Adult Entertainment, etc.

I've run adaware and Spybot continually- several times a day. Both have the latest updates. Just to taunt me, pop-ups will even come up while I'm running them. The latest thing has been the installation of "Ad-watch"...no idea where that came from. Anyway- help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!

    Here is my log:

    Hi meglaser,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = www.spotresults.com/

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll (file missing)

    Pieter-

Thank you so much for your help. I did what you said, but it seems the the stuff keeps coming back. The computer "looks" like its running better- but now it seems to be lagging somewhat. Also, I wrote down a few things that happened before, and continued to happen while I was doing what you said, including:

Frequent pop-ups of a Security Warning- Do you want to install and run....and it is GAIN Publishing.

Also, my taskbar keeps showing an Internet Explorer browser window, which won't Restore, but it says on the bar.... http://69.20.62.53/yyy3.html

I ran adaware again, after doing what you said, and 44 new things were found!!! Spybot found 2...

Anyway- here is my new log. Please help!!

    Looks easy enough.

Stay off the net until all files are deleted (second reboot)

Open VX2Finder it and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button.

Then select the *Delete these files* button.
You will be left with notice about one to be deleted on reboot.
It will ask to reboot on deletion of the last file (do that)

After that last file is gone go to
Start > run > type regedit enter and Navigate to :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\GuardianEVOGV

(Note : the five letters in caps at the end may have changed [EVOGV] but it will still start with Guardian)

Right click on the Guardiano_O?? key and select delete.
    Close Regedit.
    Reboot.

    Open VX2Finder again and select:
User Agent$ > yes to confirm delete.
    and then
    Restore Policy

    Exit and reboot.

Run Vx2Finder once more and click on the *click to find VX2.BetterInternet* button. Then click *make log*.
Post it here with a fresh HijackThis log please.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Not good. The part about not being online is important.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\GuardianTOVJN

(Note : the five letters in caps at the end may have changed [TOVJN] but it will still start with Guardian)

    Regards,

    Pieter

Try this please. Keep using the click to find and delete buttons untill nothing is found.

    Then continue with the rest.

If that doesn't cut it I will have to ask you to register here: http://forums.broadbandmedic.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi and point them to this thread.

The genius that wrote this program is active there and will probably need some more information.

OK, here is what I tried.....
    Pieter:

Here is what I did…. all offline

    VX2Finder Checked – removed 2, rebooted
    VX2Finder Checked – removed 3, rebooted

Ran Adaware- found 8, deleted, rebooted

    VX2Finder Checked – removed 1, rebooted

    Ran Adaware again, found 1

VX2Finder Checked - found 2 (one was the same that Adaware found)....

Also, I noticed that every time I delete the Guardiano_O? , when I open it back up, it’s there again- it is not deleting it…..

Here is my VX2Finder Log as of now:

I think you should. Option^Explicit will be better able to help you with L2M then I am, and if there is a new version out, he will want to know.

    Keep us posted please.

    Hi meglaser,

I am soooo glad it is not a new variant of this cr@p. :D

Reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools <= entire folder

Then check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

Boot normally and read How did this happen and can I prevent it?

    Regards,

    Pieter
