Dr.Web Security Space 9.0 beta ready for testing

Doctor Web is launching beta-testing of the ninth version of Dr.Web Security Space which provides comprehensive anti-virus protection for Windows PCs. We invite all interested parties to test and evaluate the improvements made in malware detection, performance, and usability.

The product incorporates heuristic routines for detecting programs belonging to the Trojan.Encoder and Trojan.Inject malware families. Corresponding options are available in the Preventive Protection section.

You can now use the Parental Control to enable secure searches in Google, Yandex, Yahoo!, Bing and Rambler, and import and export the whitelist of removable media used by the component. In addition, to improve performance, changes have been made to the Dr.Web Cloud service which allows you to check URLs on Doctor Web's servers.

Tweaks in the configuration UI have been introduced to improve the program's usability.

Doctor Web welcomes all users wanting to participate in the beta testing of Dr.Web Security Space 9.0. In keeping with tradition, those testers whose advice and comments prove to be most valuable to the product’s developers will receive gifts from Doctor Web.

I suppose the majority of the changes are internal as the UI hardly looks any different than v8. In fact the beta installs as v.8 but you can see the v.9 components in the about menu. Initially there was significant "drag" on the system but I''m doing a scan now to see if that alleviates any of the sluggishness.

 

GUI only the slightest change in version 9.0.The most basic feature is not implemented yet and is not even voiced by developers.

 

just wish they would bring the price down or offer some deals like they used to. i miss dr web.

 

I have 5 computers in my house. I'm not paying £160 a year or more to protect them with Dr.Web. Why is the price so high? It alienates almost everyone.

£114 for a 5PC deal then the dreaded 20% VAT on top here in the UK; so about £140.

However, the high price of the 5PC licenses or £30 for a single license is IMHO still far too expensive compared to other AV vendors; both free and commercial.

Until Dr Web drops its retail prices or reverts back to their "Switch to Green" policy for Home users, which it had in place a few years back, its non-Enterprise market share will remain low.

 

May be, may be....
But now the beta shows fantastic results for the detection of unknown threats, prevention of cryptologist and injects.

 

This may be so but it is a pity that this cannot be confirmed on the official AV testing sites.

Any thoughts about this?

 

I have thought about it

1. Beta nowhere can be tested formally.
2. Doctor Web has refused any tests for a long time.
3. There are no independent tests, any test necessary to pay, and who pays the piper calls the tune.
4. Only personal experience with the product will leave your subjective opinion.

 

What's the reason? Didn't know that.

They contend that all tests are for marketing purposes only and results can be skewed by vendors paying. I respect their decision. I have used their product and it is quite good.

Thats a 3rd of the price of a brand new laptop.

Even the top players would not dare attempt such a price tag.

Im sure dr web is a great product but i tend to go for the freebies.
The english are quite tight-fisted especially when it comes to parting with cash.

Being a russian product it should be quite good.
