Looks like Defender is the new MSE. Sadly the option to limit real-time scanning to 'Monitor incoming files only' has been removed.

It appears that Network Inspection System and behavior monitoring is also gone.

Windows Defender becomes what it always wanted to be :thumb:

Had some issues getting the ISO on my thumb, installing it on an old laptop now. If it goes well I'll consider it for my main machine.

Just noticed this screen during install:

"Help protect your PC from unsafe content, files, and websites"

Use Windows SmartScreen Filter to check files and apps with Microsoft: Default:On

So it's like some kind of cloud reputation for files already on your machine.

Haha, and how many people will simply turn it all off? That's the main issue here.

m00n, I believe the network feature has been integrated into Windows, see the bottom of this screenshot:

Network Access Protection is unrelated with Network Inspection System. NAP is already present in Windows 7 (not sure about Windows Vista).

NAP is usefull within a network. It basically checks if the computers are up to date and all that stuff and if they aren't, then they will have restricted access.

I doubt it. Defender was revised to look more like MSE.

If Defender continues to be built into Windows, it won't replace MSE or include virus definitions...

m00n, silly me. It's still there, you just can't turn it off:

    Screenshot disagrees with you.
