What's the best music player for Windows now? Some people like a simple player while others prefer the jukebox / library type with many features- playlists, tagging, burning ability, etc. A large number of players have been listed but which is your favorite for listening to your music collection? If you have one that is not listed please post it. Be sure and state why you feel yours is the best! It does not matter if you use a paid or free product, some free are better than many paid programs anyway. So, for instance, if you use MediaMonkey Gold as opposed to their free version please make a post stating that. PS- I edited this so that voters may make multiple selections as many people have more than one player they use regularly.
While I don't have a favorite for this year just yet, today while looking through Gizmo's, I came across MusicBee, http://getmusicbee.com/. Sparkly and bells and whistles loaded it is not. What it lacks in pretty interfaces and tons of features, it more than makes up for in user friendliness, an incredible library creator, the support of many MP3 players including IPods, low resource usage and the ability to not only auto-track added songs/albums, but also, and with pretty darn good accuracy, sort them into genres without you having to lift a finger. I also like its tagging and ease of looking up album information/artwork/lyrics. It's really a sweet little app so far, it does what I need without the bloat and the sound is really good.
i use itunes because my iphone is best supported by it for my apps and such. and its much easier than keeping my music library managed on 2 diff players, i just use itunes and it works fine.
I tried iTunes and was impressed but for some reason I get an error message whenever I try to burn to cd's.
I used Winamp for a long time but now have Quintessential player installed it is good and easy configurable
Quintessential Player has not been updated in quite a while it seems, guessing def not compatible with win7 then...
That's a nice review. I have heard good things about MusicBee and may try it out soon. I am using MM currently as my primary player but may give J.River MJ a try before long.
Yeah its last update was on 18-02-2009. I have tried browsing their forum they didn't mention regarding whether QMP is compatible with Win7 or not. EDIT: Its compatible with Win7 Info (FileHippo)
I don't know if it's best, but years ago I tested some and stayed with foobar. Never had the urge to look any further.
how is that possible if its last update was about a year ago... it can't be compatible, they just probly see that it "works" and decide to say it is fully compatibly.
Yeah even I had that doubt, as I don't have a copy of Win7 still(only the BETA builds) so I don't know much about its compatibility on Win7
Currently running Windows Media Player, I am looking for a media player that lets me build a list of radio stations for instant click online radio
jetaudio. The free version has a very good player for sound quality and it has two features that I use on occasion- a ripper and a burner.
Tried out J.River Media Jukebox some today. What an elegant piece of work. I had no trouble importing my music files and have not gotten any "upgrade" nag ware as of yet.
Anyone know a good program for managing and playing your online radio stations? Too bad MusicMatch Jukebox is not around anymore
The jukebox is free, the media center is still a paid product. See below- http://www.mediajukebox.com/ http://www.jrmediacenter.com/
IIRC Spider Player did this pretty well. Here's a link to their page and a comparison between the free and paid product- http://spider-player.com/ http://spider-player.com/download Alpha2 may be worth a look as well- http://alpha2player.com/
I voted for Winamp. It is a Firefox among players, the extensions/plugins are its strongest point. I use this for music. I also voted for JetAudio, I think it's an exceptional all-in-one media center. Sadly, the lack of VST support keeps me from using it daily. FWIW, for video I use KMplayer. I did not vote for it, as the topic here is music. Which makes me wonder - what exactly does a player has to do to be compatible with Win7? I mean, it's just a player, not a kernel driver. Provided that you installed a compatible audio driver, as long as the player supports DirectX, it's fully compatible. Windows 7 hasn't changed a bit in that department (as in many others), except that the DirectX has been upgraded to v11.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x86. It comes with Windows Media Player 12, and I found it to be very good. Small, fast, reliable, full-featured and compatible with many file formats. I also maintain an updated version of VLC Media Player installed, just in case I find a file format WMP refuses to play.
