What's the story with the cheap NIS/NAV 2010 licenses on ebay?

I'm not going to link to any of them, but I see lots of listings for NIS 2010, NAV2010 and even other brands at very low prices. Such as 2 years, 3pc NIS 2010 codes for 15.00 or best offer.

I know it seems a lot of them are based overseas, but their feedback does seem to be 100% on most all of them, sometimes running into the hundreds.

Anyone TRULY know what the scoop on these listings are?

 

I don't know the scoop as to how they get the licenses, but I have bought some through the years, and the only one I got burned on was recently with Avast. Since I paid with PayPal I got my money back.

Although you will get many comments not to buy one, my personal experience has been excellent, and they work.
I assume if the keys are not legit Kaspersky, for instance, would blacklist them. So far they work for me, but it is always a case of "Let the buyer beware."
If the vendor has had a lot of transactions and a good reputation I am willing to buy and pay with PayPal. My experience has been very good FWIW.

PS One problem is that I just bought one, but don't need it now, and so hopefully it will work in a year.??

I used to buy my KAV on ebay from a seller in China and never had any issues. From what I recall the license was actually for a the Chinese version but would work on a US version as well...legal..I don't but mine always updated and even had a couple of upgrades with them.

 

I'm guessing the resellers are buying these licenses in bulk, but I don't know how or from where. I have bought several licenses, KAV, KIS, NIS, etc., plus some non-security products, and have had only one problem. I got a license for KIS, and Kaspersky blacklisted it. I contacted the reseller, and he/she sent me another license that worked. Overall, I've been very happy with products I've purchased on ebay.

 

Actually most of the time those licenses are region restricted, and/or pirated...so we periodically get threads on the KL forum where people complain why their cheap as chips license was suddenly blacklisted.

 

Since last year ALL the keys I bought in eBay (Kaspersky) became blacklisted after two or three months! And I buy them from so-called "Trusted vendors"... So, I don't trust them anymore.

 

That is good to know, and while I have not had that experience it might happen any day now.
In the past I always bought only boxed copies or the CDs. I never had a problem with those.

It's really a pitty because they used to work perfectly. But after three bad experiences I decided not to buy them anymore.

 

I almost never buy anything at retail prices anymore. With craigslist, ebay and the deal sites, you can find deals for almost anything in new/good as new condition.

I purchased a boxed copy of Norton from ebay and it worked fine.

 

I bought a 2yr license for 3pc's of NIS 2010 for $15.00 on eBay recently. The download links sent to me were for an upgrade installer however I just installed the regular trial version on all 3 pc's- one XP, one Vista x64 and one Windows 7 x64 and applied the activation code sent to me by email. All 3 activated perfectly for 731 days. So for $5.00 a PC, I have 2 years of protection. Even if it blacklists after 6 months I still would be happy, any longer than that would be a bonus and if much shorter I'll do a chargeback on my Visa.
On all 3 PC's I was previously running Avira Antivir Premium and Windows Firewall with advanced functions enabled. Ater installing NIS 2010 all 3 PC's were noticeably much more responsive and after running an NIS scan it found some nasties that Avira had missed. On the laptops, when I wake them from sleep they reconnect wirelessly almost instantly where before it would take like 5-10 seconds.

 

This afternoon I bought NIS 2010 2yr for 3 pc's for $22.88 from zljl22 on eBay. I was emailed the key a few minutes ago, and it activated all 3 of my systems which show 731 days remaining.

 

i wonder one can generate numberless keys by a keygen and sell them on e-bay. 100% profit margin.

 

I have done this with Norton 2009 (upgraded to 2010), gdata and mcafee with no problems.
