Buy Acronis DD 10 now for Vista x64 SP-1 or wait for v11?

Been looking for a <safe> partitioning / data moving prgm for Vista x64 w/ SP-1.

Been reading a lot of posts on problems using it w/ Vista (esp x64). I'm not THAT desperate for a partitioner yet that I'm willing to jump thru lots of hoops to get it to work.

Should I wait for v11 (when is it expected)?

Partition Commander doesn't support Vista x64.
Symantec stopped development on Partition Magic.

What else is out there that's reliable?

Also seen many, many posts about Acronis being very slow to issues patches on all their products. Do experienced users agree w/ that?

    Thanks.

Acronis doesn't release any dates for new versions or updates. It's been quite a while since DD 10 was updated, but Acronis has stated they're planning to release another update. It sounded more like a 10 update than a new version. Acronis also has newer builds of 10 that you can get from support, but they haven't "officially" released them (you can't download them from your account).

Thanks. Hmmm... is Acronis saving the later builds for a special occasion, or just not confident they're stable?

As mentioned, don't think DD 10 will work correctly on Vista x64, and not many other partitioning prgms, either.

Perfect Disk 10 home ed. supposedly runs on Vista x64, but never researched it & don't know anyone that's use it.

If others have suggestions, chime in!

    Thanks.

Interesting point Mudcrab. I am having problems as well. I use Vista 64 and the installer fails as it trys to autoamtically install the OS selector. It screws up my boot but somehow I got it to go away. It is screwy for sure. I can however resize and work with the non-system drives.

I have had problems with the Vista BCD and can't really blame that on DD. I use an Areca Controller and have about 5 volumes on it, booting to 3 or 4 at different times. I added an intel SSD and then had difficulty booting other OS's. I recently added a second SSD and put them into a raid 0 using a MB controller. Now I can't Boot any other version of Windows. It would be nice if the OS selector worked as I would love to toss this BCD.

Like many things though perhaps I just need to understand it better. Maybe? I am not sure about that. I don't have problems with physical drives it is the way Vista is supporting multiple controllers that has me confused.

I happen to run Perfect Disk 10 and so I thought I would respond. I use the workstation version and it works fine. I don't defrag my ssd , it doesn't get fragmented anyway. But I do use perfect Disk to defrag other volumes as well as to check for space allocation and delete duplicate files.

Perfect Disk 10 really doesn't have much to do with Disk Director. It doesn't secure delete, or create/resize partitions. I don't really know of anything the 2 programs have in common.

The problem that you are having (and that I am having as well) happens because there is a bug in OS Selector when it works with OEM preinstalled OS. This has been confirmed by Acronis Support and they say that the next build (which is still cooking) will solve the issue. I have already complained indicating that it is not fair not to post a notice somewhere to avoid user problems !!!

    FWIW,

I own an HP Pavilion Laptop with Vista 64, and I installed Disk Director 10 on it when I purchased the system in January (boxed version). I've used it to partition both my internal HD and an external HD without any problems at all.

I've never used DD 9. It may work from the CD if it supports your hardware, but I doubt it would work installed (if it will install) in Vista (32-bit or 64-bit).
