    Hi,

I'm assuming that he "be" in the name (eavbe_nt32_enu.msi) stands for beta.

Links to rogue sites or unknown sites are not allowed here. I would stick to the official sites for safe downloads.

An official site would not host installers that are not digitally signed ! I'd keep away from such installers.

So what's the situation with this release? MajorGeeks have it listed on their site? Is this a real release or not?

    Hello,

From the Support News section of ESET's web site:

    May 7, 2008
ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0.658.0 were released today in Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional), with other languages to follow. This release contains the following changes:

    • Fixed bug in Update module
    • Compatibility improvements with Novell NetWare client

For more information, or to download a copy, please visit the download section of ESET's web site.

The main reason for this release was to provide localized support for two Chinese dialects. It also contains some small bug fixes that will show up in future releases for other languages.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

Am I to understand that the bug fix will not be an automatic update?

It will be, along with other fixes when an automatic program component update becomes available.

Marcos, it would be nice to understand what types of new program functionality/features can be delivered in the automatically downloaded module updates - for example, the Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1112 date 20080512 that got updated today - as opposed to manually installing a new update.

I assume that not all new functionality, such as drivers, can be delivered in module updates.

New functionalities are delivered through a program component update which has not been released yet (newer versions can be downloaded and installed manually, or "pushed" using ERA). Updates of the other modules can bring: support for new archives/fixes for the unpacker of certain archives (archive module), improved code emulation (advanced heuristics module), etc.

    Thanks for the explanation Marcos.

BTW, what does ERA stand for?

Also, I have never seen an automatic program component update get pushed out to NOD32 v3.0 through all the pre .650 versions. Is that something that is coming with .650?

    Hello,

ERA is an abbreviation for ESET Remote Administrator, the software package used to centrally administer ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Smart Security and other software from ESET in a networked environment.

ESET has not released a program component update (PCU) for ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0 or ESET Smart Security yet, which is why you have not seen one occur. Right now, we are probably a few months away from one--I do not have a schedule, though, so cannot be more specific about when the upgrade cycle will begin. Notification will be made beforehand, though, so you will have time to prepare.

Reading all of the above posts by Eset it looks as if we should download the new release if we want the bug fixes.

Do we need a fresh install or will .658 install over .650
