acronis universal restore---

hi , i have this config..
image disk: 4 pcs of DVD (my compaq server with 250G partition size and 20G data)

destination: P4 PC with 80G ATA harddisk

the restore option prompt me to should follow to resize partition or else can't restore the image , so i use the resize option , however, it prompt to change the disc all the time , disk 1->2 >1 >3>4>1>2>3.........more than 20 times , it is really annoying !!! and i dont know when it can finish changing disc ... any idea or suggestion

 

This is normal for a TI DVD restore. If more than 3 or 4 DVDs are used the swapping becomes an absolute nightmare.

Backing up to an external USB hard drive is much faster and generally a lot more reliable than DVDs.

Please notice that the reason for that behavior is files are usually aren't contigious on disk, so a file can have it's pieces on all 4 of your DVDs. We may suggest you to create a temporarily second partition on your drive, store the backup files there and restore from there. Or, you can temporarily store them at any other location (another drive, network share, etc.)

Copy the DVDs to the same folder on a hard drive (USB external drive for example). Restore from the hard drive and there will be no swapping.

Keeping images on DVDs is a good way to do off-site storage, but it's a lousy way to restore if there are more than 2 DVDs.
