Open DNS ?

I see Open DNS in many posters signatures. How big a difference does it make in browsing speed? What other positive attributes does it offer?

Also, are there any privacy concerns a person should be aware of?
It looks intriguing and I am thinking about giving it a try.

Any comments/suggestions?

I tried it briefly and it was ok. I believe there are other services similar to opendns. It it very easy to set up. Give it a try and if you don't like it go back to your regular settings. This is from their FAQ's.

also it has antiphising bultin.
im annoyed because i cant changed the dns settings on my bt homehub.
if i change them in the connections in windows xp i can no longer access the router page.
its a shame because i liked using opendns.
i might buy a cheap router and plug it in the back on my home hub ethernet port just so i can use open dns and also have a better wireless signal.

Did you try to access the router by it's IP (like 192.168.1.1)?

I tried to switching to open DNS, but since I'm on dialup, I couldn't access my ISP once I did that. So, I tried another method which worked. I placed my regular ISP DNS Server as my primary DNS server, and one of the two Open DNS IP's as my secondary server. My browsing speed has increased, since it seems if my primary DNS is accessible immediately, it switches over to the Open DNS server. Have been using that method for several months and am really pleased with the result. I don't know if that can be done with a router, since I've never used one.

 

I have found "a little" problem with OpenDNS, that it does not have registried some local webpages (found about 10). When I used my ISP's DNS servers, I could open them, but with OpenDNS, I could not. For me, it would not be a problem to change DNS, but since my mom liked to visit them, it was a problem, but I said to her, that there are bad pages, not working as they should, so the matter is closed for me, but nevertherless I would like them to work.
