What should I do? I'm getting a "failure booting drive c:" when i was formatting my computer...

Win98 was the operating system I'm installing...

I tried to format my harddrive several times but still got the same message...

    here is my format commands

    D:

    cd win98

    format c:/q/s/u/c

    c:

    md win98

    cd win98

    copy d:\win98

    setup

Note: The message occurs when I type the "setup" command.

I also tried non-quick formatting and also replaced my harddrive and RAM still the same...

    Was it the motherboard....

    Hello,

That's not the way to install Windows 98. Some of the files are archives that need to be extracted during the setup. Merely copying won't work.

You should put the disk in the CD-ROM, boot from CD-ROM and then install the operating system. To change the boot sequence, when you restart, you should enter the BIOS setup, usually F2, DEL.

Once in the BIOS, make sure the CD-ROM boots first, save changes, exit, then it should boot the CD. Follow the instructions.

IF there are no partitions available, which seems not to be the case here, you will have to use the fdisk utility to create partitions.

Ask for help if you need.

    Mrk

If memory serves me correctly, 98 will not boot from CD. A 98 boot floppy or equivalent is needed to prep the hdd then do a switch to CD. The floppies are available here> http://www.bootdisk.com/ Sorry I do not remember the commands. It has been a while sense I loaded a 98 machine.

Thanks for the good response folks.....

But can you please give me a complete command setup booting from cdrom choice number 2. And also using NTFS format process.

I think that thing will help me a better cause I did not practice installing using "CLICK-CLICK-FINISH" process.

Anyway, i have tried to apply some of the suggestions.

    Thanks again... :)
