    Hi,

I have a four partition hard drive with os on partition one, programs on partition two and data on partitions three and four.

I created an image of partion one then partition two both with Acronis Disk Director and Home Image included.

I booted with the image of partion two, one of the choices on the screen that came up was "one button restore". I clicked on it and was surprised to see that it was restoring the image of drive two to drive D which was the partition the image came from. I thought it best to not interrupt the process so I let it finish.

What it did was to eliminate all of my partitions and turn the entire hard drive into one partiton with the programs from the image of drive two! I can't believe this has happened. I am fond of Acronis products but an very dissappointed that this could occur, what a drag.

I absolutely have to restore this hard drive to the condition it was in before this happened.

I have an back up of the partitions from Disk Director (I think it was from this hard drive) I am not sure if that is the right terminology.

How do I get all of my partitions back and pick up the data on drives three and four. I have the image of partitions one and two so thats easy but not of three and four where all of my irrreplacable data is. What a nightmare.

    Any assistance appreciated.

I can't help you other than to tell you not to do anything at all with the disk until some people more knowledgeable about recovering the partitions respond. If anything writes over the sectors then it really will be gone.

    Hi Daniel,

As you have found out, by design, the Acronis One-Click Restore feature will delete any partitions on the destination drive that are not included in the image being restored. Checkout this previous thread titled <Partitions deleted by TrueImage one-click restore>.

    Regards

Have you had any luck yet? If you cannot restore then you might be wise to get the data off it, a data recovery tool may do the job for you.

    Free one here:-

Commercial ones (recommended by many) here:-

In this situation, the ONLY safe choice is to use a service such as http://www.ontrack.com/.

Do NOT further use the PC.

Do NOT mess with any free, or not, file recovery programs.

Hopefully, you get this resolved, but in the future do FULL system backups.
And have more than one external drive with separate FULL backups.

I would like to add, mostly for the benefit of any recent TI purchasers that might stumble by, *never* use a feature of TI you've not used before, unless you've already researched what it does in detail. For a data recovery tool, TI is notorious for not notifying you before wiping out all your partitions if you make the wrong choice. Newer builds have gotten better, but still.

It's a great product (I use it), but I so wish they'd think a bit further with regards to warning messages.
