Does NOD32 detect bad scripts?

Hi All,

I installed NOD32 trial version last week and I'm very happy with it. I'm told NOD32 doesn't detect bad scripts, is this true? I'm planning to buy it after trial expiration.

NOD32 detect many scripts (VBS, JS, PHP...) using signatures. And many others too using heuristic. Anyway, scripts viruses aren't so common as some years ago.

search for vbs (to name just one) - those are vb-script viruses - the v.1.1006 (20050222) update alone contains dozens of vb-scripts.

I'll have to rely on NOD32's signatures protection. As a new NOD32 user, I haven't changed its default config yet as above thread suggest ("extra settings for NOD32"). Surprisingly many settings suggested there, are stated as not recommended by NOD32 Control Center On screen Help window
I read on this forum people having problems viewing some websites with NOD32 at higher settings.

I really like low resources NOD32 uses

 

With the 'higher' level of settings, you're not just relying on a signature database for detection but also advanced heuristics at increased sensitivity, and not just selected file types but all files. While at the higher settings, you have a higher probability that NOD may generate false alarms but it also has a higher probability of detecting unknown nasties. Thus far, I have had zero problems utilizing the higher settings.

 

Then I don't know why those settings aren't implemented as default at NOD32 installation It is supposed Eset wants best possible protection for their users. I'd understand the 'reverse' mode, by low the settings progressively if users encounter problems.

 

Seems to me that default settings are the 'middle ground'. Perhaps Marcos will chime in with a comment.

Why doesn't NOD come setup with BlackSpear's config by default ?

 

Servers....that make sense.
Maybe a "read me first" info with recommended NOD32 config. settings included after installation would help to us, standalone pc's users

I have yet to have a problem with NOD32 using Blackspear's extra settings. I would rather air on the side of caution and have a false positive, vs. getting some malicious virus.
