Good to see F-Prot reaching an Advanced level again but sad to see two old stalwarts like Dr Web and McAfee relegated to bottom of the tier. AVG, Avast and Norman continue to improve.

This means my two main primary scanners are at the Advanced/Advanced+ level now

Nice to see that ALL free AVs have at least a A checkmark.
Also, Symantec is the only one big vendor which keeps on a good level. Almost all the advanced engines come from small companies (Kaspersky, Avira, ESET, Grisoft, Alwill, FRISK, SoftWin, Norman)

it's not a rise, it's staggering, it's already at the top (maybe ibk could include advanced++ then it will have the chance to rise even higher :D )

Does TrustPort use the Kaspersky engine? Kaspersky just seems to be the best engine time after time, except for Avira.

I have a hatred for Kaspersky. It's SO bloated ~Phrase removed~ compared to NOD32. Vista only makes bloated even more noticable when Kaspersky kinda screws up in vista ... at least for me it does.

Let me refresh a few memories here. Nod was the overall winner for last year, and no one can argue that. But IBK also said in his synopsis report that Eset had their work cut out for them if they were going to retain that title this year. And it is nice,"cough" to see that Eset really cant walk on water. I have no doubt, their misfortunes this reporting period will be quickly addressed.

Avira, he stated was on a course to gain that title this year, and Stefan and the entire group at Avira have yet to display their true ability. It will become apparent over the course of this year. At years end, Avira will have exactly what they set out to create, a security suite that encompasses all, and no fluff or glamour like others. Come on folks, they deserve some kudos for the hard work they have done in a short time.

Now, the scary part of this, sorry Chris, but the Web sank with the increase of price for spam protection, , back to my thoughts, the scary part of this is, Kaspersky. Given their ability to produce, when they do roll out heuristic ability this year, no one, and I mean no one, may be able to touch them. And that was their long range plan.

I think that TrustPort uses the Norman and BitDefender engines.

I can't deny that if one's machine is slowed by a "bloated" program he would not want to use it. However, the so called "bloated" AVs don't slow mine as near as I can tell.
So I don't care one whit about whether or not one is bloated. My concerns are that it provides great security, runs well on my machine, and gets along with other applications.
If it does those things then I will use it, if not I'll find something else.

I use F-Secure IS on the laptop, and it does what I need. Unless it starts causing problems it is probably a permanent application there. :thumb:

I am not sure why we get emotional over an anti-virus program.o_O It is just software.

    Thanks Macstorm.

    Best,
    Jerry

    You're welcome Jerry :)

I also don't understand this strange feeling, maybe we are all infected by an unknown virus :)

    Regards,

AVG Free or professional would not get Advanced. AVG scored well only because AVG AntiMalware was tested, which includes the ewido engine. So, you do not longer can apply the results of the paid version to those of the free versions (except: Avast).

And e Scan uses the Avira AV scanning engine, if I remember correctly.
