Does SFC Scannow work with SP2

I have read that when SP2 is installed, the .inf files, (the ones that tell SFC where to get copies from), are modified so that SFC goes to the ServicePack Folder first to find the relevant files.

Can anyone please confirm whether or not this is correct.

Hi bch, see if this helps (scroll past the adds). Common issues.

Global Force, many thanks for that information. I have learned a few things, particularly from your second link.

I still can't find a definitive source which says that SFC Scannow will still be functional after installing SP2. I think it will be, but the concern is that, when it prompts for the CD, you end up overwriting SP2 files with those on the CD. If SFC goes to the ServicePack Folder first to find any required files then all should be well but, if possible, it would be nice to have this confirmed.

Sorry about the delay in replying as I'm in the UK.

Sorry I couldn't locate a good confirmation article on scannow bch.

I did locate this page at Webtree (personally, I don't enjoy trying to find anything at M$).
Though if you must, Support Options (read carefully). Here's a blog on sp2.

From what I gather, it certainly sounds like this has something to do with the "path" that gives the orders to SFC,
as you mentioned in your first post. I'll have to look a bit deeper....

GlobalForce, I managed to get through to Microsoft Support by using your link and they confirmed that SFC Scannow will still be effective. ie. it will look in the new ServicePack Folder on the hard drive first to replace any files.

Many, many, thanks for helping me with this.
