How Do You Pronounce "Wilders"?

Is it pronounced "While Ders" or "Will Ders"?

I often wondered.

 

I have always pronounced it "While Ders"

but at the old thread points out. the correct pronunciation is Susan..

The i in Wilders should sound like the i in will
So the first part of Wilders sounds like "will".
The second part "ders" sounds like ters in waters, but then with a d ofcourse.

 

Let's ask Mr. Wilder.

 

I'll take the experts' word for the correct pronunciation; like many others here I'd assumed all along that it was while-ders, probably because of association with its first part, "wild", which we pretty well agree on the pronunciation of, at least in English.

And of course "proper" pronunciation and spelling of any proper name are at the sole discretion of the person with the name. Wandering slightly O/T, for which my apologies, I think it was Tom Lehrer who used to kid about his friend Henry who spelled his name H-E-N-3-R-Y ("the 3 was silent, you see").

 

It's Dutch, so it's veel-dhers.
