    Guys,

We fixed the problems with Windows 8.1 and I've uploaded the beta version 1.3.7 here.
Please check and let me know how it works for you. You will need to install over if you have the older version installed.

If no new issues arise we'll release the official version shortly. Sorry for delay.

Yes, I guess we are the only 2 left on XP! I had that issue and ISSO fixed it in ver 1145. It is the browser that shows 1145...look for the d/l.

    Hi stapp,

Looks like the AX64 mount driver didn't install properly. This sometimes happens on XP and is apparently related to some of the OS component that functions improperly. I'll have a look to see if there is any workaround. Meanwhile I'd appreciate if you find time to file a ticket by using "Feedback & Support" button on the top left corner of www.ax64.com main page. Thank you!

EDIT: noticed the answer by MPSAN: yes please try the version 1145, it should work. Thank you MPSAN for reminding me!

Your manual MERGEs will be slow if the snapshot your deleting is a large one... just like deleting the BASELINE. And the snapshots that you MERGE into will be getting larger and larger along the way with the differences in the protected volume.

When you have long MERGEs, see what the size of the snap you're deleting is... it will probably be pretty large.

    pratzert,

Yes it will undo any encryption. You can also get the original version of the file directly by drag-dropping from AX64 Backup Browser.

Hey Froggie, thank you for fantastic explanations, I really have nothing to add :thumb:

I was also thinking to share my thoughts on image verification, but you, Peter and MerleOne seem to have covered everything already. I agree - there is no method that can guarantee the successful restore. Also most of the users skip the image verification because it takes too much time. However some of them may find it useful, so we do have plans to add it. Thank you guys!

    Hi Isso,

    You are welcome! :)

Though, reporting a bug. While creating media, I am getting, "error 32 creating media". Any thoughts?

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

P.S. Another excellent news!. It is much faster in making images, without freezing.

    All situations are valid :D

Yep, the checksumming will only detect snapshot aberrations between points in time. If the snapshot was broken while being created, there's something wrong with the application. I don't know whether AX64 checksums a snapshot it's about to MERGE into (it should) but if it doesn't, and the snap is broken, yu just may wind up with a really broken MERGEd snapshot. If you break the snapshot chain (by deleting a snapshot with Windows explorer without AX64 knowing), AX64 should be able to detect that during MERGEs (I've never tested it... I'm only a "virtual" marketing guy)), especially if you're trying to MERGE into a missing snapshot. If it doesn't, call 1(800) Where's-Isso.

A lot of utilities always expect the data they're about to work with to be intact and error free... therefore they don't check. They assume that if they created it, it must be OK. This might be a bit presumptuous but most do work that way. They don't know the myriad of ways their data can be broken and therefore don't prepare for any and all failures (they don't know what they all could be). It's like trying to put some sort of error detection/correction on every data path in a 'puter, it's just not done. It exists in some areas (data from HDD surface to its interface and the buss it will be using, ECC RAM memory) but most do not have it. If things start going bad, the problem winds up affecting lots of things in a system, not just a backup snapshot.

Hi aladdin, Is beta ver. 1.3.7 fast, fast, fast generally speaking or is it fast for your WIN8.1? Do you think I would see an improvement upgrading from my v1120 using WIN7?

    Hi Twilight,

I have tried the above only on one machine with Windows 8.1. And, let me tell you the imaging was very fast without any freezing. In past on the same machine with Windows 8, and v1120, v1133 and v1145 it wasn't so fast and I had freezing issues.

Try it and it might surprise you! :)

Though, I am not able to make the "Recovery Media".

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

Are you recommending that everyone upgrade to this new version or only those on Windows 8.1? What about users of Windows 7? Should we stick with an earlier version?

    @Isso

I will try build 1145 for the AX Mount Driver not installing correctly on XP. At the moment I have build 1120 on.

I had AX64 1120 on Windows 8 running well, and then updated to Win 8.1.

Removed AX64 1120 from Win 8.1 this morning using AX uninstaller. It left a driver behind in System32 and a folder in Programs. Unsure if this was a failure of AX to uninstall correctly or a result of upgrading to 8.1 with AX installed.

Will be trying build 1.3.7 on Win 8.1 tomorrow :)

    @MPSAN

    I am a she not a he :)

    Hi Isso

I see Mohamed is having issues with the creation of recovery media when using the new beta. Is this a case of when new recovery media MUST be made or can one use a recovery CD made with say Build 1133 when cold restoring a snap that was taken with 1.3.7? We have discussed this before I seem to remember that one did not have to create a new recovery CD every time there was a new build released.

Many thanks in anticipation of some advice on this point.

    Regards, and respect.

    Dear Baldrick,

Excellent question for Isso. On my second Windows 8.1, it again didn't create the "Recovery Media" too. See attached image.

    Best regards,

    Hi Alex,

I believe that Isso is recommending for everyone by his following comments, which I have highlighted in red color. Those with Windows 8.1 didn't have the AX64 installed on their machines, as it was creating a BSOD. AX64 was uninstalled on machines with Windows 8.10

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

I've been using the .45 beta so think i'll try this newer one. Can't hurt having more people reporting back about it. I'm on Win7 64.
