After much thinking I am going to keep it simple for my new setup

    Panda Cloud AV PRO
Bugbopper or Hitmanpro: (Have not chosen 100% yet)
SpyShelter free (For a Light HIPS)
    ZoneAlarm Free

(If Emsisoft ever does one of those free mamutu deals again I will switch that in instead of SpyShelter)

Do y'all think that is to much over lap??

I had been thinking I get some spare money soon I would put DefenseWall in instead of ZA/SS. Maybe they will have a sale later this year like the good one last year :D

There a 65% off deal on Mamutu at Softpedia through August. 3 years is about $22.

Avira free seems to be fast and catches a lot.

Running Threatfire, but looking to replace it.

Just tried the demo of Dr Web Anti-virus. Love the spider icon.

I use Dr Web Cureit on demand to find the nasties.

I doubt I understand half of what Kees is talking about.o_O But I keep trying.:)

Changed out Mamutu for MBAM real-time to go with Avast, which I reinstalled with just the File and Network shields.

Trying to decide what goes together best for real-time protection. Want to have a light AV and then have anti-malware or HIPS or something else that fits with the AV.

I personally understand the basic fundamentals and their importance, though I'm also too lazy to actually do all the stuff that he's doing simply because of a different point of view and the fact that I reformat on a regular basis. :D xD

Are you looking for free or paid programs? Free, I would try Prevx Facebook version here: http://www.prevx.com/facebook Paid, I would try DefenseWall it has a 30 day trial here: http://www.softsphere.com Both programs work well together with Avast.

Edit: Noticed you're running 64-bit, so no DefenseWall. :ouch: Not sure what else to suggest right now.

Ahh there is hope, Sully (a well respected member who made Pretty Good Security) told me (when he has sufficient time), he would make a program (SAFE) which implements all these tweaks, by simple context menu.

    Regards Kees

I've noticed you mentioning "formatting" more than once. If you don't have imaging in place, you should - will save you alot of time and effort.

I've tried the Facebook Prevx, I have it off for a while to see if that is what was giving me EventIDs. I keep checking on DefenseWall for a x64 version.

Why? You won't "wear out" the hard drive by doing it any more than by normal reading and writing.

Years ago, I also formatted my PC every couple of weeks or mths. But that was before I discovered imaging. My first imaging software was Acronis. I never formatted my PC anymore ever since.

Reformatting gave me fresh starts every couple of weeks. Re-imaging gave me fresh starts every morning if I want. In a mere 5 minutes.
