Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Ran and scan and no indication of an update.

As for just downloading the update, is it an install or not? I can't really tell if it installs or just runs from it's location. It creates a desktop shortcut and puts an entry in Add/Remove Programs, but it doesn't look like it really installs.

Edit: mn, I see what it does. It creates a copy of the download and puts itself into a Program Files\Hitman Pro folder.

Seems a far fetched idea? BTW Hitman logo never gave me the feeling of PacMan. U know why? Because you did not open the mouth of PacMan properly :) while MalwareBytes did it more real and that really gives the feeling of PacMan.

    Ofcourse it,s all subjective.

Don't be afraid, you will get enough FP with "only" 5 engines as well ...

Right, but Hitman Pro itself is indeed doing things on its end to keep these on a minimum. :)

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

As dlimanov already said, we've just released Hitman Pro 3.5.4 build 87.

This build is all about removing the latest TDL3.24 rootkit that is spreading like fire! In the last weeks we cured over 13.000+ computers. Most of these computers were having an up-date AV installed that should have prevented infection.

If you search in the last week for 'google redirect virus' you'll see how big this is.

If you are browsing the internet and you are directed to different sites than expected, your PC is probably infected with this highly advanced and evolving rootkit.

Hitman Pro 3.5.4 build 87 can cure all current variants, up to version 3.24.

Erik, just noticed the following message from HMP. I don't have a problem switching it off, didn't even know it was running.

Just a question, no negative effect to users on switching this driver off?

    hmp.jpg

I searched for details on this driver:

What are the benefits of Intel(R) Turbo Memory?

Intel® Turbo Memory is a technology that uses flash memory to improve the general performance of your computer by moving frequently accessed data over to the flash memory.

The benefits of Intel Turbo Memory include:
Faster application load and run time when multi-tasking
    Faster boot time
Lowers PC power consumption by reducing hard drive spin.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The driver is very controversial as the computer (mostly laptops) gains nothing from it as you can read here at Anandtech.

But the big issue with this driver though is that it incorrectly implements a few hard disk commands that Hitman Pro is using. If you disable this driver then Hitman can access the disk at a lower level revealing tough and advanced rootkits.

The IaNvStor driver, responsible for the 'Turbo Memory', is layered on top of IaStor. IaNvStor (the Nv stands for Non-volatile) provides some caching, resulting in that the hard disk is less frequently accessed. In reality, users almost gain nothing from it as can be read from the Anandtech article.

The driver is always loaded on laptops with Intel chipsets running Vista. Even if you don't use this Turbo Memory technology as it requires flash storage. Most people don't have additional flash storage, leaving this driver useless running, hindering Hitman Pro's detection.

Our graphic artist (Mark) uploaded just the Dutch advertisement, resulting in that everybody now sees the ad in Dutch. Problem will be fixed when he gets his @ss out of bed

Triple Helix does not see the advertisement as he is using a purchased license.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I keep seeing the question so I decided to try it today. My first impression is so-so. Hitman Pro found 2 entries that I am pretty sure are false positives. I mailed support about them

Two other nits that I don't like is that you cannot install it in a directory of your own choice and if you scan the detected files individually from explorer, you do not get a quarantine choice nor do you see what file was just scanned. See attachment.

Edit: I noticed that the history log is empty and shows no indication of the detections. Also, no information when the last scan was run.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Thank you Adric, I could reproduce 1 of the FPs, caused by the Ikarus engine, part of a-squared Anti-Malware 4.5:
    CPick.jpg
Note that Hitman Pro uses 7 AVs from partners. So they do the actual determination whether a file is malicious.
Ikarus is although known for being a bit agressive. But Ikarus also catches a lot of zero-day malware.

Hitman Pro is just an EXE. You don't need to install it, but it copies itself to the Program Files folder (conform Windows guidelines) to allow right-click scanning.

There is still a blank screen issue with files that were previously "reported as safe". We have this under investigation.

The History is intended to show only items where either Delete or Quarantine actions were performed on.

That is actually a good idea. We're going to add that in the next build.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I really think you should log all actions that a user decides on. Even if he/she decides to treat the detection as a FP. In my case, I have no way to determine what I did. It might have been a mistake. How would I revert my action?

When I did a full scan after treating the detections as FPs, Hitman didn't detect anything anymore most likely because, as you previously stated, the files were reported by me as being safe which leads to my question above.
