Is there any way to permanently hide the advert for the avg IS from the avg 8 free screen gui. There is a hide notification but its back when gui opened again.

I am just using this for the moment as i changed from kav as it would not work with comodo. I am thinking of going back to nav 09 good reports on it

i am wary of relying on any free av for this new pc. Is avira the one with the little red umbrella logo? Didn't like it much but years since i tried it

David, yes, Avira is the red umbrella logo. To get rid of the AVG Hide Notification area (until the next program update, that is), go to:

    C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8.

Rename avgmwdef_us.mht to avgmwdef_us.mht.bak and avgresf.dll to avgresf.dll.bak. And, gone, baby, gone!

Why don't you ppl just use avast!, that's not annoying the heck out of users?
It's just there and does it's job without being a total pain in the rear with it's stupid ads about payable versions. Users know that, there is no need to annoy them every freakin hour about your services.
