Sounds like that is from bios. Recheck the bios boot order - it may be looking to boot from a different device. Set your HD first in boot order.

Try data recovery programs. If the data was ok, it should be recoverable.
It takes several seconds- it is checking every time and generating log files ( you can find them in "program" folder. ) It is being cautious.

I think it means backing up the GPT header, roughly equivalent to the partition table on MBR.
How is the laptop drive connected? Maybe the Linux recovery doesn't have the right drivers.
