If you want something simple to use then avg combined with comodo is a good option.
Well it removes the pop up ads :) To the original poster, just use avast or avg, no pop ups, no nonsense, just good viral protection.
AVG ain't bad at all, i've used it for years and it protected me well. For simplicity and ease of use, nothing beats avg :)
