If you dont include spyware/adware, then Avira Antivir does have the best detection for free antiviruses.
Whatever you do, just don't get Fortinet or you will be bothered by it flagging everything with its extremely paranoid heuristic.

I don't agree that Avast free beats Avira free. Avira classifies many spyware samples as trojans and also picks up quite a bit with heuristics.
The detection rate isn't very good and Sophos wasn't too mature about it when they saw their poor detection rate at av-comparatives.org and...

Im not sure but i do not think AVG has a http scanner. If you are going to get AVG, you should get AVG antimalware or the security suite.
Even with Kevin's help Comodo will need at least 3 years and I think even 3 years is abit generous.
Comodo will need way mroe than a year to catch to other AV's
