It looks like you have to choose between manual or automatic, so if you start doing manual and then switch to auto they might not merge the manual...
If your backing up to an external drive, the snapshots don't appear until you plug in the external drive.

My CD did exactly as yours. At 62.5% the cd ejected. I took the CD out to look at it, and placed it back in the tray then closed the tray....
