Eset isn't the only AV vendor having problems with SP2.
As long as the system started and all ESS modules are active you are fine, the problem lies in how SP2 starts.
I don't believe you can install NOD32 or ESS in safe mode. Once installed you can run a scan in safe mode, but I don't think it can be installed...
I can't speak for everyone obviously but while I may criticize Eset, it's in hopes of making ESS/EAV a better product, I have used quite a few AVs...
