MX Linux runs nice on my old Dell D630, my low powered ThinkPad X140e handles MX Linux just as well.
Are you sure it isn't a cooling fan spinning up ? HDD's don't have "superspin cycle" they spin at rated speed. I just tried MX live CD on two...

Puppy Linux or any Distro with LXDE desktop. XP shouldn't be slow unless you have many start-up items, memory hogging AV and GFX card that shares...

PCLinuxOS 2007, IMO it was the best, fastest, easy to use, everything worked distro. Linux desktop has gone down hill ever since.

No change. I'm on Frontier 1.5 meg DSL(their DNS) I get 1.52 Mbps down, .37Mbps up, between 40 & 85 ms ping depending on what server I choose....
The past 3 weeks been running these together (Trafficlight Firefox plugin) and Panda Cloud AV. Everything seems zippy fast with no slow downs what...
