n00b needs help with creating a rule for a port

Hi..
As a new user to LNS, i have used the eMule ruleset to allow traffic through LNS for my eMule client(NeoMule)..
The problem is that to use a feature called "Web Service" I have to open up port "4711"(TCP I think)...
I wouldnt have the foggiest notion how to create a rule for that port..
I gave it a try and I got lost on the first configuration box
Is there anyone with a bit of time on there hands that could show me in n00b terms how to do it please??

Do u know that any of the 23 people who viewed this post knew how to write this rule?

The support here is excellent. U must be patient as it takes time to get replies depending on the issue. I've seen it take a few minutes to a couple of days to get the help needed.

Impatient? You gotta give it more than a couple hours on a public forum.. there's nearly 40,000 users, and most are here for roughly the same kind of reason as yourself.

The easiest way to create a rule in LnS is to look for the notification of blocked traffic in the log, right click on the line stating the traffic was blocked and "create rule"

Well first I must apologise for my impatience, I guess Im used to big forums where within 10 mins you usually have 50 answers to your question...

Anyway down to business...
After spending most of the day re-reading the manual I gave it another shot at making a rule for the port in question(4711)...After having seen the screenshot above, I now know(I think) where I was going wrong..
Somebody mentioned in this thread to just have a look in the log and right click the line where the traffic was blocked, thats just it, by the time I figured that out from the manual, I realised it wasnt being shown in the log as being blocked, well not in any language that I understood.
Up until I saw the screenshot above I had given up all hope of being able to use my Mules web service, but once Id seen it I knew exactly where I was going wrong. I was putting the port I wanted to open in the wrong place and I didnt even have the "In range A-B Port 1024-65535" entered in correctly...Duhhh!!!
So i apologise profusely for my impatience...

Another question I have goes along these lines
I had imported the eMule\eDonkey rules I got from the website, but I was using the "Enhanced Ruleset", and i noticed right at the very bottom theres a rule there that "Blocks any other packet"..The same sort of rule was there for blocking UDP & TCP packets so I turned them off and I was getting better connections from clients\servers or so I thought, is that necessary or was I meant to leave them be??

As I know form this forum, LnS authors usually respond quite quickly and helpfully. It is not clear to me if Jimbo40 has registered LnS (only registered users get priority support).

And one thing: "I wouldnt have the foggiest notion how to create a rule for that port.". It seems to me you lack basic knowledge to handle a simple firewall. And for some strange reason you did not evaluate it before purchase. "The best" product in any software category does not mean it could be handled by anyone.
My advice- take a 101 course in networking or go for a popular, self configuring firewall or else you will experience dozens of similar "problems".

I am not suprised that LnS authors do not haste to solve such kind of "problems". They are really not their problems.

And the so called support for LNS for registered users is slack. Might as well mention, what you determine as basic knowledge is not what others would...

That is correct; however the download server containing the official copy of the rule-set had gone off air recently, looking forward to putting it back up when time permits.

However I’m about to leave, and I didn’t have chance to put back up the Guide pages for it, please don’t apply the rule-set until you look around the forum for information necessary before apply it.

 

I havent applied the rule set for that specific reason...
Im still trying to work out the dns numbers I have to enter in before the ruleset works...
I will wait patiently for your return... and your guide...lol

 

Drop the word "support" and you will be right. That's a lot of difference.
