@Tigzy did something change in 5.4 BETA2 about the way you try to find winget.exe? Because on all of my machines it is no longer finding it (the preview version that I sideload).

The registry key you asked about it pointing to the production version

    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.DesktopAppInstaller_1.22.10861.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\winget.exe

Can you shed some light on how you try to find it? Do you use this key? Or do you use the COM server Package WindowsPackageManagerServer.exe?

    Hi Steve Hoke:

See Tigzy's 09-Apr-2024 post # 1443. This winget problem in v5.4.0.0-BETA2 should be fixed in the next BETA release.

    Ok we'll take a look.

Yeah ok, but let's not overcomplicate things for the first version. I believe supporting existing / default Winget is / should be enough for now, as long as it provides reliable results. Also giving ability to run any arbitrary process sounds a bit of a security issue.

It is not finding ANYTHING or just missing a couple of them ? If the latter, then it's somewhat expected...

Yes I know, but if we still talk about "Community" updates, it's standardized and shares common code for all software. So it has to follow strict patterns and best practices.
If software A is not following common practices, and is popular enough it'll be added to our "Supported" list, so that it has its own custom handler. And no more issues like this (in theory)

If you have 2 software to monitor, I secund that. If you have hundreds, I don't think you will try to monitor any website for all of them.

It probably has to do with some flags requires to accept sources. We'll fix that.

    Hi duf666:

See Tigzy's 05-Apr-2024 post # 1409 about reporting of erroneous version detections. The preferred method is to use Adlice's online contact form at https://www.adlice.com/contact/, and the last incorrect version detection I reported there got a relatively quick response.

Same problem as what was reported, programs not updating their uninstall key...

That's weird. What does "winget upgrade" say about it ?

In the real world (where Windows does not enforce a requirement to update that key) there is no reason to suppose this issue will go away. There is a term in psychology (expectancy bias) for people who stubbornly cling to unrealistic expectations. UCheck will always be flawed if it's not reality-based.

I wish I had a simple way to fix that, but it's not the case today. We can try to lookup for EXE's version, but I'm afraid it will break something else very bad.

    Hi Steve Hoek:

Thanks for the heads up. I'm currently using UCheck v5.4.0.0-BETA4 (rel. 19-Apr-2024) and had no idea that https://www.adlice.com/ucheck/ has been offering a stable release of v5.4.0.0 since 07-May-2024. Here's what my BETA currently shows:

    UCheck v5_4_0_0-BETA4 No Update Available13 May 2024.png

This problem could have been avoided if the version number of the stable release had been incremented to 5.4.0.1.

I don't want to be rude BUT... if the program tells you to upgrade, that means there's a newer version...
    Kind of obvious, no ?

    Hi duf666:

If you are using UCheck Free as I am then "Please upgrade to unlock all features" just means you are being asked to purchase a license to unlock premium features like PUP protection. All versions of UCheck Free, whether they are current or outdated, show that same message. From the latest stable version of UCheck Free Portable v5.4.0.0 (rel. 07-May-2024), which is similar to the outdated v5.4.0.0-BETA4 dashboard I showed in post # 1472.

UCheck v5_4_0_0 Current No Update Available 19 May 2024.png

Here's an old image from March 2024 showing what I see when an update is available for a stable edition of UCheck Free Portable - in this case, from v5.3.0 to v5.3.1. The font for the update notice is white text on a light grey background so it's difficult to see and can sometimes go unnoticed if I'm not paying close attention.
