    Old woes are back to haunt us, we can't escape the past. Hence this new tutorial showing to resolve (again) intermittent media playback start resets and AVI (.avi) file double window issues using VLC in the Plasma desktop environment when accessing content on Samba shares by changing the data read prefetch value. You've seen this article in 2020, and now, here's the 2023 edition. Do read on.

    @topo,
    I saw your other post in the Linux Mint 21.1 thread.
    I don't know much about Mint, so I didn't reply in that thread.
    And I would guess your post is a bit off-topic in this Plasma thread.
    But anyway, I thought I'd ask - is your issue limited to a specific media player (like VLC), or did you try multiple players and do they show the same issue? If you haven't tried other media players, I would say that's the first thing to do.

    thank you for your reply i just got an intel media driver update from mint and it has helped. i'm not savy on the inner workings in linux, i click on firefox to watch youtube vids and PBS to watch their already aired episodes. this is where i was having the choppy/laggy video playback.i had vlc installed but uninstalled to see if that would help and it didn't. do i need to make vlc my default media player? what is my default media player? thanks for your help

    Hi topo,
    If I understand correctly, the issue is when you play videos in Firefox. Is that correct?
    For me, it is hard to say if the cause is in Firefox, or Mint, your computer hardware (like CPU and GPU), or drivers. Good to know a recent Intel Media Driver update helped.
    I hope someone else is reading this, and may be able to help.
    If not, it might be an idea to start a new topic, and mention all details, and see if you get any helpful replies.
