Thanks, I missed the 3.0.17.x updates somehow. Note that 3.0.17 fixes a security issue with Flac files.
They still have the 3.0.16 as the actual download on the webpage it seems. The internal updater for me still says 3.0.16 is the newest version :/

FYI. VLC Media Player Portable 3.0.17.4 (audio and video player) Released for the PA Platform, courtesy of PortableApps.com
FYI. VLC stopped playing youtube! Hopefully, this issue will be fixed soon, without using batch files and plug-ins.
All we're getting are "Couldn't" messages for the time being: https://github.com/videolan/vlc/commit/90dcfa0e78081770ecbd0a072b96a277aea4a214
That's the same issue the yt-dlp developers are facing lately. They still managed to fix it each time YouTube changed things again. Fixes last only a few days though... https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/4635
We know that YouTube is the big kahuna, and any player that can not play YT videos is worthless. Developers have their work cut out for them.
Tried the above lua script and was able to watch a few YT videos, without getting any messages, so the next version might fix this issue.
YouTube changed things again now (new player c16db54a). Video opens, but downloads extremely slow (~74KiB/s), so is practically unwatchable... Yt-dlp (latest master branch) handles it fine now (I think due to this commit), so with MPV media player it plays at normal speed.. Also, VLC streams at 720p and I'm not aware of a way to make it stream 1080p. MPV can stream at 1080p (or higher if your PC can handle it). I put this in it's config file: Code: ytdl-format="bestvideo[height<=1080][ext=mp4][vcodec!*=av01]+bestaudio[ext=m4a]/best[ext=mp4]/best"
I did use the latest lua script you linked to. SHA1: Code: 5e4053e2a1f4cbdd4e6504b19d1cceef0b7d0d4e Maybe it's because I have an old VLC version here in Linux Mint (3.0.9.2)? [Edit] Just tested in Windows with the latest VLC (3.0.17.4). Same issue.
nicolaasjan, you know that you have to change the lua script to luac, when saving during downloading, and place it in \VLC\lua\playlist folder in order to work?
Yes. In Linux Mint it is: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/vlc/lua/playlist But I just tried with another video (the one mentioned here and that one played fine. However still not in 1080p (Preferred Video Resolution is set to 1080p). The slow video I tried earlier was this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqnWmz-qG5w.
nicolaasjan, no issues playing both videos, however, I'm playing videos at 720p. Perhaps location matters too.
Maybe. However that slow video I mentioned, plays smooth in MPV here. What I also noticed is, that some videos fall back to 480p in VLC. PS, Why is it that sometimes I can't edit previous posts any more?
If you are talking about the post where you linked a live video, once it's moderated (in this case link was plained), it's automatically closed from further editing. Read https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/how-do-we-de-link-on-this-forum.400072/ for future de-linking.
That depends on YT. If the source is only 480p (click on the YT video gear icon, settings, to find video quality), that's all you are going to get.
