I remember when I built a new PC and installed my first AV , Norton anti-virus, I even remember getting it off the shelf at a store called Eggheads I believe, and I was and thinking my computer was going to be invincible after I installed this. The only thing I got was a slowed down PC and infected 2-3 times causing me to have to reinstall the OS and apps. Looking for answers I found Wilder's and some of the most impressive minds with regards to AV, fiirewalls and virus protection, they made store clerks I talked to sound absolutely freaking clueless, I was blown away from what all I was able to learn Following the advice I was given here I ended up tossing Norton in the trash and and getting Kaspersky 3.5 Pro and running it with a firewall called Outpost which had a pretty good learning curve, but again had a lot of help here and I have been learning more here ever since.
I was brought here by AV also. It was ESET support forum that I was mostly using at beginning (remember Nod32 v 2.7?) but later started to use other products discussed on this forum (Process guard, firewalls...). I learned a lot abut security just by browsing through this forums and testing different security products. Using this forum was great experience so far.
just in case u didnt figure it out in 10 years, driverview would have showed you who the driver is from.
I just realised it's almost ten years for me. I can't remember what exactly bought me here, something to do with Norton I believe.
FWIW, I registered here via a link to this forum in the now-defunct Outpost Security Forums, back when I was using Outpost Security Suite Pro. Reference to these forums & topics posted here were often made by other members in the OP Forums. Cheers everyone!
I haven't realized I've been here for 11 years. I'm mostly a lurker. I remember the days about HIPS recommendations during XP-era and the scramble to get the best anti-spyware and firewall there is in the market. One time Wilders was made as the official ESET forum which was amazing. Learned tons of things here which helped me stay safe and secure.
125.000 + Today we reached another milestone: 125.000 + members Of course I'm aware that many are not here anymore. People come and go; such is life .... No, this is not intended to start discussions about where is person A or B; where is he or she; what happened? Such discussions are not allowed. So many dear friends passed away during all those years; sometimes we know and have a special thread for them, sometimes we don't know. They are all so very dearly missed. Thanks to you all, for being here. And keep this a great, polite and friendly forum, with lots of info and knowledge. Thanks to you all
Same here about 8 years or so, did learn so much back then. Most real testers and experts are gone. A few are here, but not like it was 5-10 years ago. Now I just logon to see what's new and hear grips and make some, oh well.
I've been here for some time, mainly as a lurker. I was also here ten years ago, but I didn't want to be a member back then. Initially, I thought this was some sort of an ESET fanboy forum when I first visited this place. I also found the atmosphere here not really friendly. Fortunately, all this has changed for the better. Wilders is a much friendlier forum now. Now I like it as it is - a friendly forum with lots of informative posts. Just my two cents.
I don't recall Wilders being particularly unfriendly ten years ago or so. It's always seemed about the same to me. Arguments and misunderstandings can happen on any forum. I always thought Wilders was fairly easy going compared to some. *cough* MozillaZine *cough*.
I've been here over 7 years! I probably found Wilders from the Avast forum, as I was still using that product at the time. I've always found Wilders to be enjoyable, informative, and polite.
Tomorrow will be a decade, to the day, for me. January 26, 2020 will be my last day here as a poster. This is an excellent site with lots of relevant info and well reasoned discussions. Always worth a visit. Kudos to the admin team and volunteers. Goodbye everyone.
Was it something we said emmjay? Anyway, whatever direction your life takes now, I sure we all hope it is a good one.
