I notice that, although it says Freeware on the Softpedia page, the image/screenshot shows a 'purchase' and 'activate' button on the software here

it doesn't seem to have the in depth configuration options like Sandboxie does, however I like the simplicity of this program. Also I like the drag and drop feature. I think Shade offers a more comfortable way to choose if you want to run a program sandboxed or not. It's just a matter of dragging things in and out of Shade. I would like to see a review of this against some malware. Like a shade protected browser running some malicious urls...

The app looks promising. However I don't like the data grabbing even in the free version...

So I tested the app just a little bit: You'll get a splash screen every time you boot up your computer when Shade is installed. Also there are some weird bugs currently. If you want to open up the GUI you 'll have to click on the tray icon. If you click on the desktop icon or on the startmenu icon you'll open another instance of the program and you'll see two tray icons. Currently you can't shut down the program. You'd have to kill all of its processes instead. Launching programs within Shade is really slow currently. Also the purple border around any program running "shaded" has some visual bugs depending on the program. In Opera for example you can see the purple border glitching on the left side of the screen. Also within the gui you'll have to click on a small button first if you want to see your programs in Shade. That small button doesn't make any sense at all because if you don't click on it all you'll see is a blank window basically without anything to do there.

Hopefully they are going to fix these issues soon. This could be a nice little standalone sandbox after all.

Thanks Arcanez for testing and letting us know. Shade sounds like it needs a bit more work yet.

Gosh anyone attempting this has a huge uphill climb to catch Sandboxie. Between the time in the past and the power of Invincea, it will be tough.

To reach Sandboxie, it needs a lot of improvement...;)

it doesn't have to reach Sandboxie in functionality. However I agree that it needs a lot of improvement.

    Why Not?
Then, why using it instead of using with Sandboxie?

I agree completely with you @ArchiveX
I think Cybergenic Shade to get a "star program" status, it needs to be as flexible as Sandboxie and even more. But above all it needs to be fast non-laggy and highly compatible. I believe Russians can do it, yep why not.
As a matter of fact I've always asked for a Sandboxie substitute and maybe this could be the one?

Just an alternative people, don't expect it to meet or surpass SBIE in quality. I will add to the list later once I have more free time.

    Guys,
GUI is a week part, for sure. But, hopefully will chane it in some nearest future. Concerning this button Shade - there supposed to be more buttons for the other products, that are not created yet :) (our platform allows to develop security related products - http://www.cybergenic.co/#!platform/c1wmj).

Well I do expect this program to meet and surpass Sandboxie one day. Even though I love Sandboxie, I love more the concept itself: sandboxing. And above all I love changes, for better obviously, and if this Russian firm can do it better (performance and compatibility) I would be more than grateful.

I think - from a first picture - it would be more like BufferZone.

anyway the website is awfull, totally crap behind x sites, frames and scripts.

    dropped.

Of course I don't expect it to be as good as SBIE straight away, but it's still kinda exciting to see a new sandboxing tool. I wish the developers a lot of success. :thumb:

Looks interesting. When I put my Opera shortcut into shade the startup of the browser takes 15-20 seconds though

On my home Win7 it takes about 4 sec. "unshaded", and about 8 sec. "shaded". We will check other OS versions. Thank you!

even 8 seconds is way too long for an app to run sandboxed.

Yes I agree, this is unacceptable. I have also read about Shade on another forum, and looks like there is still quite some work to do.

Thanks, I understand that this is a developing project so I understand that everything is not perfect from the beginning :) unshaded opera takes less than 3 seconds to bring up my home screen fyi. But I have quite powerful machine.

    Hi Ilya
I downloaded a software installer (Secuna PSI) while shaded and executed it. It installed normally and is still installed after I uninstalled Shade sandbox. Have I misunderstood something? Isnt it supposed to prevent installation while sandboxed, or at least sandbox the installation?

I use "Internet Download Manager" that catches all downloads, redirects the downloaded file to another drive and executes it from there, and I executed the installer from within that program. Maybe that bypass Shade Sandbox?
