Hate>some bugs contain more than a years or longer didn't fix, bootup speed worst one by one version(perfect is v8~10),support not well,Kb not updated, scaning speed worst(rootkit and cannot using muti-core cpu thread completely),removed the whole Avira firewall removed and not rewrite, then implement an useless windows firewall management module which is nothing improve witout current windows firewall but buggy with users!,not implement 64bit(Proactiv),Sandbox.... https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/avira.345492/page-68#post-2364908 --------------------- #3774= a) Not everybody wants the cloud, some prefer the local. Give us the option to select. ---------------------- I know that... What I'm saying is that both modules was operated simultaneously in the same software (until the update 12.1).
I know what you mean, but you can't ignore that ProActiv need to work with cloud too. As you know how effective about ProActiv (with or without it's cloud) in it's history. I guess you should have the same answer as mine. The question is ProActiv create more troublesome than protect the users even it still there it doesn't will work as it expected.(because the module development has been stop for long time.).As previous about Update 13,proactiv has it's own road map which exist before the CTO left the company,"ProActiv 2.0",but that is the past is the past. How can this weakness module to be alive in the present malware environment. Sometime it was hard decision should that stay on local or cloud, At this stage, we can't still keep this thing to disturb or planted a time bomb for ourselves. No one could say it will not create another trouble. It seems right for let the users chosen for local or not (for anyone who don't want cloud),(I don't think it could apply on this case) however it created lots of trouble, even you know that. Will you still use it?or How Avira can promising to anybody,it could protect you even on local without cloud? Sure Avira has so many left be-hide on some technology Sandbox(cuckoo) not exist in the local FireWall no improvement (it was quite easy for develop to filtering the Inboud/Outbound connection for WinFW) Native 64 for whole programe Exploit protection Drive-Base Rootkit detection etc. Avira has so much change around these years, including development team. sometime I can't see how their future directions of the company/products.
Hi, There is of course a local decider for the decission to upload a file to the cloud or not. For local use only, you have the option already: Just disable the cloud upload in the settings. Now you have a local detection and still benefit from the cloud because we update our VDF with the detections from the cloud. Our mission is to protect our customers in the best way possible. We add and remove technologies over the time for a good reason. ProActiv became obsolete compared with the efficiency of the other included technologies. New technologies will be added if they have a value and increase the malware protection level significantly. Avira is researching on different types of protection levels, a sandbox for example is not infallible and has also drawbacks. Again, Avira will add only technologies that have more advantages to the overall protection level. It makes still no sense to compile every file in 64 bit that does not benefit from the advantages of 64 bit compared with 32 bit. Avira did already compile all of the key files in 64 bit where the benefit is greater than the disadvantages. For example, the biggest advantage of 64 Bit is the larger address space. It makes sense to have a 64 Bit operating system because you can than install more than 4 GB of RAM which is useful if you want to run several programs or virtual machines parallel. Or if you use chrome... But a program just benefit from it when it needs to use more than 2 GB of RAM reasonable.
@ aaa839, ---------- @ Cmhelper, Thanks for the clarification. Needless to say, my criticism sometimes is provocative but always is with good faith.
@Cmhelper so, is APC just an extension of Avira's regular product AV definitions w/file hashes and stuff, or does it actually perform analysis of potentially malicious executables and return detections to endpoints? The marketing surrounding it is pretty vague and I haven't seen any whitepapers about how it works (if anything publicly available exists, I'd love to read it)

it's been about a week that on my Win 8 machine, upon recovering from "sleep" or "hibernation", Avira's real time protection is disabled. It hasn't been happening systematically, but at least 3-4 times for sure. I just wonder whether others have experienced such a behaviour...
I think somebody reported that on the Avast! forums, mistakenly thinking they were on the Avira forums.
Anything other than the OEM driver page I don't consider trustworthy. I don't like popups in my browser and I certainly don't want them on my desktop. Nagware and false-positives of third-party free products let me keep Win10 Defender just fine. Anything with an iota of risk goes on the sheep dip VM first anyway.
I've actually checked every resumed state of 'sleep' or 'hibernation' and 'Real-Time protection' has to be manually re-enabled, although 'Mail Protection', 'Web Protection', and 'Windows Firewall' are not affected... Windows 8, (64 bit) here, running only Sandboxie with Avira...
@ Osaban, If not already done, you better download/run Avira Support Collector, then contact with Avira Support, imo.
Thanks Anon, unfortunately their 'A.S. Collector' only works with Firefox (?) and even then to send it to Avira Support is another riddle that I'm not prepared to waste time on. I hope it will get fixed with other updates, I also have no problems running without an AV if needs be.

I don't use Firefox either. How many times I have to say it? YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE FIREFOX. Just follow the instructions given in #3791 or the PDF up to section 3 (PDF, page5): ------------------------------- Section 4, (PDF, page 6): it's another story= "Analysis of the information" Analysis.......... having some major issues with the beta version cutting off my internet connection and freezing up on me. have to reboot to correct. if i switch to a retail lic for the time being will it update to retail or will it remain on the beta version does anyone know?
Anon, after watching the video, it is clear that the Avira Support Collector file can only be attached to the email first sent by support and only if support deems it necessary. So far I haven't received a reply yet to my original query from support, and that's why contacting support for the first time only allows to explain the problem without being able to attach anything. Edit: I've just received a reply from support where they don't require Avira Support Collector. It is their prerogative to ask for it.
@ Osaban, The option to run the Avira Collector in advance and if someone wants to do it, is one story. Your mistake to insist that: is another.
The installation will stay at the beta version until the next public version has a higher version than the installed one. Only VDF / Engine files will be updated.
okay thanks its just on this one system i need to be stable for now so ill reinstall quick. i have the beta on another system and ill leave it on that one
