Thanks for the resume, ronjor, but is that Tuesday, August 4th or 11th, 2015? Patch Tuesday is on the second Tuesday of the month or has this changed?

No. These are updates that MS provides on an ongoing basis.

Can someone check with Microsoft and/or Adobe to see if the 12 August Windows Updates for Flash for IE 11 on Win 8.1 inadvertently pushed the DEBUG version rather than the standard version?... And if confirmed, get them to correct it??

It's being discussed in the Adobe forum, but I don't know if anyone of authority is monitoring things there: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1925215

Ron replied to me with: "a link on how to uninstall the incorrect [Flash] version on Windows 8"... which, if I follow it, suggests going through "Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates".

The issue however, is not merely to uninstall Flash... rather, my contention is that Windows Update kb3087916 [August] is installing the DEBUG version of Flash ActiveX into IE11 on (32-bit) Windows 8.1 systems. It may (or may not) be doing so under other configurations.

So uninstalling that update won't help... as Windows Update will then find the "missing" update and reinstall it.

It's the Windows Update itself that needs to be fixed.

If you check the Adobe Forum, there are now several more people reporting the issue.

I guess you will need to wait for a MS hotfix if it is a serious enough issue.

EDIT: Ron, sorry I didn't notice you posted this information before I did...

    =========================

Microsoft has officially acknowledged the problem, revising Security Advisory 3087916 on 13 Aug. to version 2.0, noting:

Known issues with this security update

•After you install this security update on a computer that is running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2, you may receive an error message that resembles any of the following:

    Adobe Flash Player
    An ActionScript error has occurred.

Note This error does not affect the functionality of the security update. The security update still provides the protection that is described in Microsoft security advisory 2755801

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

    ----------------------------

Still "researching" the problem? We've already determined the solution! --- They inadvertently distributed the DEBUG version of Flash Player!
