    Hi all,

I'm on x64 Windows 7 and I'm running Avast free with Sandboxie. I was thinking of trying PFW. Any other suggestions for a free FW that should run well with this set-up?

    Thanks!

Make sure to take a look at 'Online Armor Free' also.
The free version is plenty strong, offers a very decent HIPS, keylogger detection and even a 'Run Safer' (Run programs as SUA) option for those who decide to work on an admin account.

    Why not the Windows firewall?

ZoneAlarm Free is the matching fw for avast! Free. :)

BTW, avast! 6 has a built in sandbox, so you don't need Sandboxie. ;)

I'd suggest you duck now. You will be overrun by the Sandboxie horde.;)

Windows Firewall will provide great inbound protection against hackers, no reason to choose a third-party firewall if you all you want is great inbound protection. Certainly if you are using a modern router to connect to the Internet.
If you need outbound protection, there is a great thread in the "other firewalls" forum on how to setup the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security (Guide for Vista)" by Stem. You can also use that guide for Windows 7.
If you don't want to go through the hassle there are great free alternatives, dependant on what you exactly want.
    Some important questions to ask:
Do you want a host-based intrusion system?
Do you want a silent firewall/HIPS or a chatty one?
    Do you want sandboxing?
Do you want Run Safer-like functionalities?

Also, avast! Free is a very popular antivirus, so all the free firewalls will play well with it.

If you decide you don't want to go with Windows Firewall, these firewalls are worth a look:
    - PrivateFirewall
    - ZoneAlarm Free
    - Online Armor Free
    - Outpost Firewall Free
    - Comodo Firewall

Get real, ZoneAlarm is a delight to use. If ZoneAlarm was a pain I wouldn't

use it. Look at my sig., I use good stuff that's very user friendly.

No problems, no infections. I do anything online that I want and go

    anywhere I want online.

If you try to install OP Security Suite Free while you have avast! installed, Outpost 's installer will detect avast! and automatically disables the Anti-Malware component.

Therefore, it will not likely to conflict.

@cp4eva BTW, if you decide to install OP SS Free, I suggest you to exclude entire Outpost program folder from avast's File System Shield as suggested by Agnitum.

avast! free has Autosandbox, but not the manual one where you can execute your selected programs virtually.
So, it's good have Sandboxie which enables you to sandbox your browser.:)

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Trying PFW right now and will give it a week or two to see how it runs/I feel about it.

Avast free and Comodo Firewall. This is the best free combination. With Comodo firewall, you will get D+, sandbox, cloud AV and cloud BB for free.

But with this combination if Comodo cloud will detect any malware you get only 2 options clean i.e delete & disinfect which also deletes. Quarantine is greyed out coz of no CAV i.e Comodo Antivirus not installed. No way to quarantine the file.

    Thanxx
