Manually UN-Install PrevX??

URGENT = How to do this please?

Prevx is refusing to let me install a program (EVEN in Install Mode)!! and has to go, However no uninstall option exists in Control Panel|Uninstall a Program; so how can I proceed please?

Run Prevx setup again and reinstall. Then uninstall Prevx.

 

Or use the uninstall tool:

Running PrevX setup again, did nothing except launch the existing console panel.

I just manually removed PrevX by opening a SysAdmin Cmd window and using the command: Prevxcsifree -uninstall. This worked but after my PC had rebooted the MOUSE and KEYBOARD were both DEAD and non-functionally. This has hosed my system and forced me to reload a previously backed up system image. The mouse & keyboard aren't even working in Safe Mode - nice one PrevX !!

Oooo...that was a bad idea. I think you might be screwed.

 

Hopefully the backup system image I made a week ago will be OK.

 

This is the proper command prompt to remove Prevx: "c:\program files\prevx\prevx.exe" /prop UNINSTALL=AUTO and Scoobs72 posted to the Prevx removal tool!

Well the Force Uninstall program doesn't work either. PrevX still proudly sitting in my System tray after a reboot.

and "c:\program files\prevx\prevx.exe" /prop UNINSTALL=AUTO doesn't do anything either....PrevX STILL there.

 

Did you try the Prevx Removal tool? http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=csiuninstalltool and reboot? And do you have it installed in the standard folder or a random folder?

OK, the ForceUninstall has removed it; but I am now getting a Prevx3 Install window every few minutes. If I close it it just comes back after a few minutes. Really, this is worse than a virus............

 

Reinstall a clean copy http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp and remove correctly this time and reboot and that should do it!

OK, well this is what I did for anyone whoever meets the same problem:

1. Used Lateral Thinking.
2. Re-installed last weeks System Inage Backup (again!)
3. Exported the missing registry entry for the PrevX Uninstall option from a PC that had it correctly in place.
4. Imported it into the troublesome PC.
5. THEN, removed PrevX from the PC by running Control Panel|Uninstall a Program.
6. Job Done.

I have to say that, what with issues like this, many false positives, license key maintenance issues, and other PrevX related problems I have had; I will be seriously looking at the competition when i comes time to renew my licenses. The s/w caused me as many headaches over the past 18 months as I'd have had with any viruses that I might have caught by not having it in place. This is not good.

It is definitely not necessary to reimage your system. Please try reinstalling but use the randomized filename, then reboot, and uninstall. I'm unsure how it would have gotten into this state but that should allow you to reinstall.

 

These issues will have all possibly come from the uninstall manual parameter (-uninstall) which is not used by the agent at all (it is used in the Enterprise version as the install is substantially different there).

In the future it would be best to have one of our team investigate it directly as we can provide registry scripts/commands if needed. Also, if for some reason there is not a link under Add/Remove Programs, there is always an uninstall link under Start - Programs - Prevx 3.0 - Uninstall Prevx. Putting Prevx into Install Mode will prevent some warnings but you should actually disable protection if there is some incompatibility (using Stop Protection).

 

Sorry - it was necessary. Because trying to remove PrevX manually had caused my PC to totally lock up the keyboard & mouse. Even after rebooting. Even in Safe Mode.

 

This whole problem issue arose because PrevX detected a false positive in a temp file created by an official installer program (Key Metric's FolderSizes - latest version). So I attempted to by pass the problem by putting PrevX into "Install Mode" & pressing the Stop Protection button - but it didn't help.

Anyway I have now managed to remove PrevX (procedure as I described a few msgs back) and successfully installed FolderSizes.

If you run into this in the future, it is probably worth noting that "Install Mode" doesn't disable all of Prevx's protection - it just disables some of the heuristics. You'll need to use "Enable in X minutes" (an option lower than the first entry the dropdown list when in suspend protection) to allow it through, or just right click on the file in the GUI of Prevx to allow it if there is a false positive.

 

I read this and i did it so many times on this way.
(Sorry for me bad englisch).

First:
Go to the SaveMode.

Control Panel.

Then to Systemmagement/Services.

Then turn you Automaticly on Off.

Then go to the folder Windows32 en then the folder Drivers.
Put the drivers under detail and you see this.

Remove them.

Then use i "Revo" and uninstall Prevx/SafeOnline.
If it are done use the Force Uninstall Tool and Reboot 2 times.

Look in Folder /:C and if there the Prevx folder (empty) remove it.
Let now Ccleaner run.
Its done whit Prevx now.

I use Windows XP Pro/Home.

 

I strongly recommend not using that method - removing the pxkbf.sys driver manually can cause keyboard problems. It needs to be unregistered properly through the uninstall routine or by removing the entry from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

 

This post should really be deleted, just to avoid the chance anybody might be foolish enough to follow this 'advice'. It's also coming from the same guy who screwed up his uninstall of PC Tools Firewall. I think I understand why that happened now.
