I've been using IE8 on WinXP (x86) ever since it was released, but as of a week ago I can no longer get pictures or graphics to display on any webpage. Instead I get the dreaded x (inside a small box). Even my avatar here on Wilders shows up as x!!!

I have tried all of the remedies suggested in this Microsoft KB article and I'm pretty sure that all of my settings (under Tools > Internet Options) are correct - I even tried resetting to IE's default configuration, but so far nothing has remedied the problem.

I don't have this problem with Google Chrome, but I would really like to find out what is causing this issue with IE8. :gack:

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have a few of those on some sites but it's due to Ad blocking. Do you have any Ad blockers installed?

Yes I do Greg, but I had already tried disabling it along with my FW to see if they were behind this problem, but no change. It's got to be an IE8-related issue because Chrome displays all of the pictures/graphics that IE8 won't. :doubt:

Me thinks you're dealing with unregistered dll's - under "extra commands." Certainly couldn't hurt.

Strange, that MS article is rather comprehensive. One of the methods listed should have resolved the issue. What FW is in use? Check the rules covering IE and redo them if any

    Hi GF,

Tried that, but many of the dll's wouldn't register (those were before IE:cool:!!!

NIS (which when disabled did not remedy the issue) ...and I did reset everything to their default settings; still no love.

    Aaron,
I would try to run IE 8 without any Add-ons and see if this corrects it. If that works go through your Add-ons and disable them one at a time to see which may be causing the problem. Good luck.

Thank you all for your suggestions, but since nothing that I've tried so far has restored pictures/graphics on my IE8 I guess it's time to reinstall it. :doubt:

Thanks Paul. I'll add that one to my emergency tool-kit ...actually, had I known how straight-forward it would be to uninstall-reinstall ie8, I would have done it a lot sooner!
