    Hello all,
Here is a new beta release which is relatively minor in changes but should help clear up some stray issues :)

Below is the changelog. As always, you can download it from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=edgebeta for 32bit/64bit new installations or from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=edgebeta64 for a manual upgrade for a 64bit installation.

    - Improved protection for some currently unused infection techniques
    - Improved compatibility with SpySweeper
    - Improved compatibility with Google Desktop

Please let me know if you find any issues! :) Thanks for the testing, as always!

Not sure if anything can be done about it, but this is still a problem for me with 3.0.5.124

I didn't get it. I posted my problems in the Future Changes thread in the other room. (My mistake I meant to put it in the Bugs thread).

    Right now, I don't have a working Prevx  . I don't have any Prevx.o_O

I still have Kaspersky on guard though.

Did it try to update? If it did try a reboot that usually fixes for me! Make sure KIS didn't block it with it's HIPS.

    TH

EDIT: I read your other posts maybe download from the link above and try to install again if that doesn't work post back here.

I think it tried to update when I did a scan. I'm not sure. I did reboot. But Prevx has gone from my Program Files folder. Its uninstalled itself. You should read my message on the Future Changes post.

    Its working now. Thanks TH.

Great to here that you got it working!

I see in your Sig that you use LUA is that when it tried to update? And the UAC was quiet no pop-up? And also anything from Windows Defender? Any of these could have caused the problem! Maybe Joe will have more incite to the actual problem?

I normally work as a standard user with LUA enabled. In the past, I have got RC updates by clicking "check for updates" and this has worked even leaving KIS running.

This time it happened during a scan, but I did not see what happened because I left the room when the scan started. When I came back I forgot about the scan and only realised when I saw the SafeOnline tab was missing in Firefox.

I understand I need to disable KIS and install as an administration user when I do a fresh install, but thought the auto-updates happened in the background, as any user as PrevxHelp says the auto-updates use "superior" update technology or something.

I'm still confused to be honest.

    Cool.

I'm concerned we may have hidden Defenestration's problem above. Don't want it forgotten, so here's a reminder :thumb:

I've read through the posts and that is indeed quite an odd set of issues :doubt: It sounds as if KIS is blocking Prevx silently from fully installing (likely because of new beta code which could look suspicious).

I'll see if our QA guys can test using KIS again during a manual upgrade - could you let me know your exist KIS version + signature update?

    Thanks! :)

I suspect this has something to do with SafeOnline preventing outside modification of the Firefox process - I'll look to reproduce this and hopefully get it fixed in one of the next builds :)

Thanks for the precise issue report!

Currently no threats that we're aware of can get around SafeOnline so we're left to think: "If we were malware authors, how could we try to get around our protection?"

We do this on a daily basis and constantly try to break our own products and we found a minor area worth improving in the latest build even though it is currently not used by any threat in-the-wild :)

Can you please send a scan log to report@prevxresearch.com? I'll get it fixed directly from there :)

    Thanks!

Edit: I believe I've found the FP and fixed it - let me know if a rescan clears it up! :)

    New RC 3.0.5.125 out today.

Unfortunately, my computer tried to download this during a scan which resulted in Prevx being uninstalled again due to some incompatibility with KIS 2010 (I'm still not 100% sure its KIS). I can't mitigate against this as I don't know whether an update is pending (I could disable KIS during every scan, but it would be a bit inconvenient. Besides I do an auto-scan when I log into my bank).

I should add that when this happend I was using Excel and afterwards Excel was unusable as I couldn't click on any cells.

I hope this can be fixed as its a pain. It would be useful if a program update was not automatic in a manual scan but the user got a choice, like the dialog that appears when the user clicks "check for updates". I could then at least decline the update or disable KIS and continue.

I should stress to PrevxHelp/Joe that if your looking for this in the lab it only happens when updating during a scan. Other updates (manual, click "check for updates" are okay I think).

    I will re-install now.

Edit, after re-installing I unticked "automatically download and install updates" in the basic configuratiom but I am not sure what this does exactly (online help didn't tell me much). However, I'm hoping this will help while the incompatibility is fixed. I really want this enabled again when the next release version comes out.
