No offence but I feel Anon has given you an answer to your "issue". Sorry if my very short reply was taken in the wrong way, my apologies.
Avira's forum is a joke. As a paid subscriber I can say that it is totally useless. Members of the Avira team check in here at Wilders more frequently than in their own forum. In my experience, it is mostly free version users who cannot access email support requests that post in the company forum.
This has been happening for a while: whether Avira automatically updates or I trigger a manual update, the program interface remains stuck on "Updating... 0% installed" or "Updating...100% installed". The GUI recovers its standard appearance with a reboot. I wonder whether others experience the same problem. Hopefully somebody from Avira will look into it... I will try to uninstall and re-install, and see what happens... Running Avira Pro here.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Avira Pro without any change, the GUI remains stuck on updating as above...Only a reboot seems to set things back to normal...
a) They are informed re the above mentioned bug since Sept 7. b) Since then, 9 days passed and as you can see, they don't care, they don't give a damn about it. Just they said: "You might be the first one to experience that - could you please raise a bug report?" My reply was that I will not make any report (they are already informed about it, the bug is reproduceable and they have to fix it).
a) Same here (in 4 PC's). b) The bug is in new UI only. Open and check the old UI (avcenter.exe), it's ok there. Sometimes the following works: With both UI (old/new) open, trigger an update via the old UI. See the new one, if bug remains, repeat the update (via old UI) again and again.
Maybe you are not understand what it was written here, so I have to explain to you that my 2 posts was not complaints but answers to Osaban questions. You get it now?
It's purely a visual issue, the updates were completed correctly (as can be seen in the activity log). Team has already worked on it, i can confirm a planned release date on monday morning. You were not the first to report it, I raised the issue myself on 5th of September. Please be aware that the team cannot personally follow up with every person, especially when multiple levels/teams within the org are involved, esp. if you refuse raising a ticket and thus we cannot track you through the org.
I didn't said that I was the first person who report it. I said that Avira is aware about it, at least since Sept 7= The confused customers who faced the bug 10 days now and have no idea what's is going on, they deserve an answer or not? All the millions of users have to raise a ticket in order to get that information? The blog and the rest channels are used only to advertise how good the Avira is?
Like any other vendor we monitor the severity and frequency of such issues and pick the communication channels accordingly, including KB articles etc. if the frequency is high.
I merely stated you were not the first, I assume you somehow misread that as an attack which certainly was not my intention.
@ anon Thank you for being always alert about Avira's issues. @ marcuskng It is good to know it is only a visual issue and somebody is working on it, thanks. As for my peace of mind I had put Avira through the Eicar test and it had reacted as expected therefore I did not think the effectiveness of the program had been affected.
I used to like Avira. I used the suite till about 2013-2014. Out of curiousity I took at look at the current products. Antivirus pro, internet security suite, prime. prime is really expensive and it 'manages your firewall' whatever that may mean. I recall the Avira suite having a firewall, but then it had to be removed for some reason ? Possibly the reason why I switched, since I like outbound access control. It's a bit confusing, honestly. The product has changed a lot ? The suite has many features, some seem risky (auto updating software), even an optimizer in prime. Well, I guess it works but it is very different compared to 5 years ago ?
Protection wise, only bald claims of next-gen technology implementation and machine learning, they keep adding unnecessary features, but can't finish UI for more than a year. Marketing > Security.
Correct, I'm counting the time between the "planned" release date and "actual" release date. The discrepancy will be some hours? Days? Weeks? If it's the latest, I don't need the confirmation from a Vice President as even myself I can "confirm" a planned release...…
Misunderstanding here, i can confirm a release date on monday did not mean it was planned to be released on monday but that I can talk to the team about it on monday. Release is still a bit off but we have a fix candidate in the pipe. There are however higher prio things that need to go out first.
I'm pleased to report that the update bug has been rectified, it is now working properly, thanks! Edit: it worked properly once. on a subsequent update attempt it got stuck again... Edit again: Now when starting or rebooting the umbrella is often folded even though the UI signals no problem, anyway the problem persists, when it first worked it must have been a fluke...
