Active customers in legacy versions are being upgraded

In an initiative to ensure all Norton customers have the latest features and improved security, active customers in legacy versions on Windows platform are being upgraded to the latest version of their Norton product. With the 21.x and prior architecture being over 5 years old, we have determined that we need to upgrade our users to the newer architecture in order to provide sufficient protection.

Below are some FAQs that might answer some of your questions.

1. What are the products being upgraded?

2. What versions are being targeted?

18.x (5.x for Norton 360)

19.x (6.x for Norton 360)

Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 SP0 customers will be upgraded to 22.15 version (XP/Vista maintenance version)

Windows 7 SP1 and above customers will be upgraded to 22.19 version

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said his company has landed many Symantec channel partners following the November sale of the company’s enterprise business to Broadcom.

“On the partner front, we have seen significant demand as they look to protect customers who are left searching for better alternatives as Symantec abandons large segments of the market,” Kurtz told investors Thursday. “Several partners in the United States and abroad have launched Symantec replacement campaigns.”
Kurtz said one channel partner submitted to CrowdStrike a list of several thousand customers that’ll be migrating away from Symantec over the next year.

Some Symantec customers have come to CrowdStrike since they’re not on the “named list” of clients Broadcom is wishing to serve, Kurtz said, or aren’t happy with the support they’re receiving since the $10.7 billion acquisition closed.
Symantec partners or customers are now coming to CrowdStrike as early as a year out from renewal since “it’s not an if, it’s a when” they’ll be switching off the legacy security platform, according to Kurtz.

To make sure that all of our customers are sufficiently protected, we are announcing the End of Life for several of the old versions of our products on Windows. With the 21.x and prior versions being over 5 years old, we have determined that users will need to migrate to the newer generation product versions in order to receive sufficient protection.

If you have a Windows PC running version 22.14 or older then we suggest that you right click on the Norton icon in the system tray and select the "Check for a new version" option. Alternatively, if you cannot find the Norton icon in the system tray, you can visit the Norton Update Center and click the orange “Update Me Now” button to download and run an automatic updater tool.

Norton Security 22.20.4.57 for Windows is now available!

Norton Security 22.20.4.57 update is now available via LiveUpdate. As with our previous updates, this version is being released in a phased manner. This update is available in all supported languages. To download it, simply run LiveUpdate through Norton user interface.

2. When will I receive the patch?

As is our standard practice, we are deploying the patch in a phased manner. We have released the patch to randomly selected customers, and will then monitor our telemetry, as well as this forum, for any problems or issues. Once we have confirmed the effectiveness of the patch, we will make it available to all customers. We will post an update on the Norton Community Forums when we make the patch available to all customers.

3. How can I manually install these patches?

This patch is ONLY available via LiveUpdate, and is being released in a phased manner. You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version.

4. What's new in Norton 22.20.4.57?

I believe the download is an old version but running Live Update and restarting as required until no more updates are found will give you the current / same version as the non free Norton.

Smart Scan
Smart Scan helps user identify security, performance, and network issues, and provides solutions to keep your digital life secured. It performs a virus and malware scan on your device, network scan to detect network vulnerabilities, and advanced issues scans that detect privacy issues and performance issues of your computer. NortonLifeLock recommends that you run the Smart Scan immediately after you install Device Security.

Smart Scan runs through multiple categories and performs the following scans:

Virus and Malware scan: Scans the areas in your computer that are most vulnerable to threats and eliminates the threats

Network scan: Scans for network vulnerabilities which include:

Weak Wi-Fi password

Weak Wi-Fi network encryption

Unprotected Wi-Fi network

Man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks

Advanced Issues scan: Scans for performance and privacy issues and notifies you with recommendations

Performance issues: Helps boost the performance of your computer by detecting:

Internet junk files

Windows junk files

Programs consuming significant CPU

Warn the customer whenever they connect to a public WIFI or Vulnerable Network and Providing options to fix it

Weak protocol selected when connecting to a network

No passwords configured

Banking Protection Alerts:
This alert is displayed when there is a possible risk of personal information exposure while visiting banking websites

Location Alerts:
This alert is displayed to inform customer when there is risk of geo location exposure.

Smart Scan Alerts:

@Krusty I just updated, but don't have the Smart Scan feature yet. Then I read the release notes again, and it says it's only available in the US for now.

It doesn't automatically install those browser extensions. It strongly suggests them and encourages you to install them, but it is not automatic. You can choose, like me, to not install them.
