    Running ESS 3.0.699.0

Windows Event Viewer shows several errors for Windows Update everyday. ESS seems to be blocking windows update. This happens only in Policy-based mode. Updates work fine in automatic mode. I use Policy-based mode as it loads webpages a lot faster.

Are there any rules i need to add for windows updates??
I've read differing suggestions elsewhere so i'm not sure which of these three i need to add rules for:
    svchost.exe
    wuaclt.exe
    wmiprvse.exe

Also what exactly would the rules have to say as regards remote address and ports?

When you turn to "Policy-based" mode , there will be two rules , which will appear - allow all outgoing communication and allow initilized incoming communication . Check them and you'll make your "Policy-based mode" like Automatic mode , however you can create other rules which will be read/executed before the "too-general rules" like allow all xxx communication.

As for Windows Update . Yes , svchost.exe should be allowed outgoing communication . As for the others (wuaclt.exe and wmiprvse.exe) , I am not sure.

Another option is to temporary turn to "Automatic or Interactive modes

    HiTech_boy,

Would you please explain the difference between the Automatic, Interactive, and Policy-Based Modes, insofar as using custom rules? :doubt:

Automatic mode allows all initiated outgoing communication and blocks the undesired incoming communication.

Interactive and Policy-based modes are based on user rules for all the communications . In both modes the user can create rules , however in Interactive ESS will also prompt the user for action when there is something wanting in/out communication . The communication is blocked until the user desides.

The policy-based mode will block all the communication except from the one you have especially created rules for.

You can read more in ESS's help file

    ESS 3.0.699.0 here.

Is there a possibility that ESET Security resets to Policy-MOD and doesn't Notify the user?
    Something that triggers it?

Would explain all the people being blocked from apps until they manually add them while using Interactive Mod.....?
