@JRViejo : Is there some way to receive instant email notifications that are delivered each time a new reply is posted in a topic I am watching in the Wilders Security forum? According to LowWaterMark's old 2013 post in Email Notifications receiving instant notifications must have been possible at one point in time, but I can't find a setting in my user profile to select this option. When I watch a topic the only choice I am offered is to either receive or not receive email notifications. The email notifications I do receive include a footer stating "You will not receive any further emails about this thread until you have read the new message" but as a newbie to this forum I find it incredibly annoying to have to sign in to this forum multiple times a day and visit each of the more active topics I'm watching just to get my email notifications restarted. ------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2158 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279
lmacri, as I understand it, there are two options to get notifications. Either via the Watch Thread link on top of the thread (with those 2 choices), and in your profile, under Settings > Preferences > Options (2 choices). Perhaps this LowWaterMark 2015 Post, will give you further clarification. And this feature is only available to Wilders members, not Guests, thus you need to sign in order to view them.
Hi JRViejo: Thank you for your prompmt response and the link to LowWaterMark's 26-Jan-2015 post in Watch this thread... and receive email notifications malfunction. The comments in that post lead me to believe that XenForo software that Wilders Security started using some time in 2015 does not allow users to choose to receive instant email notifications each time a new reply is posted in a watched thread, and that users must sign in to the forum and read newer replies order to restart their email notifications. I had already checked my user profile settings at Settings | Preferences | Options before starting this topic and noticed that the only option was to enable or disable all email notifications as shown below, but I cannot see any setting that would allow me to opt in to instant email notifications. I would like to suggest that the Forum Manager send a feature request to XenForo and ask XenForo to revise their forum software so that users have the option to receive instant email notifications. Is there anyone listed in the Wilders Security Forums Staff topic that has the authority to do that? I checked @LowWaterMark 's user profile and they no longer appear to be active in this forum. ------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2158 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279
lmacri, while LowWaterMark hasn't publicly posted in awhile, I assure you, he is active on this forum. Regarding software feature requests, Wilders is using XenForo's version 1.5 which is an older version, and that's by design. If Wilders switched to Xenforo version 2, Wilders would lose a lot of functions, styles and add-ons. Nothing is compatible between the two versions. Over the years, our Admin has instituted in-house custom codes that are protecting this forum from web scrapers, bot flooding, third-party IMG tag embedded image prevention, not to mention, spam blocking. Unfortunately, with an upgrade, we would lose all those protections that have been perfected over time. Wilders has chosen safety, and we can not take a chance, just to have a newer version.
Hi JRViejo: I only made this suggestion because I thought it would improve the functionality of the Wilders Security Forum. If this is a customization that can't be done in the XenForo v1.5 forum software that Wilders Security uses then that's fine. I'm a newbie to this forum and just wanted to point out that instant email notifications are offered in many other forums I participate in. For example, I have chosen instant email notifications as the default notification method for followed content in my user account for the Malwarebytes Forum but there are other options offered ... ... and when I follow a topic in that Malwarebytes Forum I have the option to change the delivery method for that particular topic if I choose. ------------- Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3448 * Firefox v118.0.1 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23080.2006-1.1.23080.2005 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.3.282-1.0.2158 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7279
