Does anyone know how to get rid of this remarkably irritating popup to the side of the browser? Firefox 87, Sandboxie 0.7.3 but the sandbox allows all programs to access the Internet. Firefox settings are: Cloudflare dns, use system proxy settings, enable DNS over HTTPS. I tried both "got it" and "disable" and enabling different proxy settings and this thing is still popping up every time I start the browser. Firefox settings were changed outside the sandbox. Tried searching and didn't come up with anything, here or on the web.

@plat1098 For what is worth, I never seen that pop up. Compare to what I do. Regarding DNS, I swith back and forth between my ISP DNS and google, so with either one, never seen the pop up. Regarding System proxy, forever I have been using the No proxy setting. Regarding enable DNS over HTTPS, I know its supposed to be good, but I have it unticked.

    Hi Bo,

Thanks for that. Yup private browsing mode did the trick, but I do not prefer to run that way. Good to know there are options though.

    Cheers.

Private mode is fine most of the time but it can be annoying in more ways that you might think. I think the changes related to privacy that Mozilla implemented in Firefox 87 might be interfering with the proper functioning of some websites when running on a private window. That's what I found. Almost immediately after updating to Firefox 87, I found one website which is pretty dirty (lots of scripts, bad scripts), that I visit often to watch baseball or football not working. But real quick I figured out that the problem was not related to new scripts being required to be white listed (new baseball season usually means changes in the white list have to be done) but because of the changes implemented by Mozilla in Firefox 87. To override the changes, I had to watch the game using a non private window.

That was last week, at the end of preseason. The season's first game was yesterday, that game I was able to watch it without having to switch to using a non private window. So, what I am relaying here tells me that this might happen some times in some sites but not all the time. Anyway, I always felt pretty comfortable using a private window As long as the user is aware that this sort of thing can happen and more so now after Firefox 87 and know what to do to take care of the annoyance I described it should be OK.

you're welcome, plat. are you using a vpn? if not, mind you, you cannot make your ip "invisible", can only hide it behind a vpn.

@bo elam: Well, your combination of no proxy plus disabling DNS over HTTPS must have been the only one I did NOT try so when implementing those settings, the popup didn't come back. Very good!

@imdb: Nope, no vpn. I was wondering if AdGuard was interfering b/c it also has DNS settings but only the Browser Assistant is kept running while Firefox is sandboxed.

Thanks very much, very helpful all.

I understand. Can you use extensions in Private mode? Guess I will have to try. Thanks!

Just this morning I discovered HTTPS-Only mode in Firefox. I guess this means HTTPS Everywhere add-on isn't needed?

Not necessarily so. Firefox' HTTPS-Only Mode has a simple enable/ don't enable mode. HTTPS Everywhere offers a more fine-grained control, even in its 'encrypt all sites eligible' (EASE) mode. HTTPS Everywhere has the option to disable (whitelist) it for certain (non-https) sites. For now, I prefer HTTPS Everywhere (in EASE mode) over Firefox' HTTPS-Only Mode.

Oh sorry, never mind. You were replying to the posts about your IP leak link (JonDoNYM), right? I initially thought you were responding to the AdGuard thing (I was thinking there could be a possible conflict betw. that and Firefox's DNS settings), but it seems you weren't. .

OK, everything seems straightened out now. :)

Next question. What is the deal with "Containers?" What are they and how do they work?

Yes, you can. In about:addons, you ll find the setting to allow the extension to run in Private Window. Like here for NoScript.

    Sin título.jpg

In NoScript you also tick an extra option in the NoScript Menu if you want switching domains from Default to Trusted while running in Private mode to be allowed to remain for good.

Hmmm ... I just made a new vanilla Chrome profile:

    chrome2.jpg

Then I added one extension: uBlock Origin ~

    chrome1.jpg

Admittedly this thread is about Firefox, but it shows uBO is still working for Chrome.
