    Hurrah, the installer of the 32-bit version of classical SBIE (5.45.0) is finally accepted by Windows Defender. :thumb: I just installed without any problems.

    Edit:
    My pleasure was too soon. :thumbd: After some hours Windows Defender suddenly warned again about the installer (obviously not about the program itself - at least until now):

    I do not understand why this issue cannot be resolved.

    Please David, can you fix the last version, the classic v.45.0, when I download different files, only the window for the quick restoration of the first downloaded file appears, for the others it doesn't appear if there is more than one file, this didn't happen in the previous versions, this behaviour is very annoying.

    Super bug found.

    Office 2019 does not run on Sbie Plus v0.5.1.
    It runs fine on Sbie Classic v5.45.0

    That shouldn't be as v5.45.0 and +v0.5.1 have the same core components those the same behavior compatibility wise, try emptying the sandbox and re running office.

    I assumed exactly the same so I wonder what happened.
    I'm an advanced user not saying an expert so that's the first thing to do when troubleshooting anything...
    I did everything possible from editing ini file to resintalling sbie v.0.5.1 with a blank/new ini file, even I reimaged my C drive, etc.
    Somethings bugging Office 2019 on sbie plus 0.5.1

    Thanks David for checking the error, I didn't know there was a 5.45.1, I'm already waiting for the next release you'll make with the fixed error. Thank you Soban for observing this error.

    @Mr.X the only thing I can think of that may have had any effect is that the binaries for 0.5.1 were compiled with VS2019 instead of VS2015 like the once for 0.5.1
    The only relevant files should be SbieDll.dll and possibly SbieSvc.exe here are the files from the 0.5.0 build: https://xanasoft.com/Files/5.45.0_vs2015.zip can you please try if you replace those files in the 0.5.1 install of yours that it works again?

    Cheers
    David X.

    @Mr.X I have tested it in a virtual machine with word 2019 it starts successfully on booth versions, but there is a catch:
    You must install sandboxie-plus to sandboxie folder or edit the templates.ini to adapt the paths, as it seams the templates required for office have some hardcoded paths and work only when sbie is installed to the default location.

    I will look into adding a fix for that, just not sure how to do that elegantly

    Yes it worked.

    Changing the paths on this template [Template_OfficeClickToRun]
    Code:
    HostInjectDll=c:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SboxHostDll.dll
    HostInjectDll64=c:\Program Files\Sandboxie\SboxHostDll.dll

    to
    Code:
    HostInjectDll=c:\Program Files\Sandboxie-Plus\SboxHostDll.dll
    HostInjectDll64=c:\Program Files\Sandboxie-Plus\SboxHostDll.dll

    resolved my issue with Office 2019

    Thanks I will reinstall to check it out. But the bug with the GUI not remembering screensize and position should be fixed, otherwise I won't be able to use it, I'm very geeky when it comes to this stuff. :p

    Thats fixed in the next build see my every day updated changelog: https://xanasoft.com/sandboxie-plus/changelog/ for the upcoming changes

    Also about the office issue the best fix is
    Code:
    HostInjectDll=\SboxHostDll.dll
    HostInjectDll64=\SboxHostDll.dll

    as since 0.2.1 / 5.41.1 sandboxie when it encounters here paths starting with "\" it pretends its own installation directory dynamically.

    Hi all,

    I have been a long-term Sandboxie user under Windows XP and never detected any "breakouts" of software I have tested inside a sandbox.

    Two weegs ago I installed Sandboxie v5.44.1 on a new Windows 10 machine. Today I installed PDF24 (www.pdf24.org) into the Default sandbox. It installed two printers, "PDF24" and "PDF24 Fax". To my surprise, these two printers were also visible outside of the sandbox! Then I deleted the sandbox, and the two printers were still there. I searched the registry, and it was full of traces of "PDF24". How can this be? Is this a known bug, or did I something wrong? Sorry, if this topic has already been discussed here; I didn't read the whole thread. Thanks.

    Stefan

    They call me The Fixer. I've been searching low and high. I won't get to get what I'm after till the day I die. ;)

    Can programs break out of a Sandboxie sandbox under Windows 10 (see my above post)?

    It is extremely rare, but it can happen. It has never happened to me (that I know of), but when it has happened to other SBIE users (not with a POC, but in a real world situation) its always a good decent program that's installed in a sandbox (default settings sandbox) and somehow a setting or something that the sandboxed program modifies gets out of the sandbox. The closest to something like this I ever experienced was once when an icon of a program I installed sandboxed remained in the list below in Settings>Personalization after I deleted the sandbox. I found that kind of strange but perhaps there was an explanation for this happening. After deleting the sandbox, the icon never appeared in the Taskbar but it remained in the list for a while.

    Note; I don't recall ever reading about something like this happening when the program is being run sandboxed and in a restricted sandbox. Never ever. :)

    Some time ago, when sandboxie was at v4 i've seen a similar leak when installing a program that had a virtual printer but can't remember the name of the app but i know for sure that the device installed by the sandboxed app remained in the real system even after the sandbox was deleted.
    So I've tested today in a win10 VM and it seems the devices/printers installed by PDF24 can break out of the sandbox. That made me curious so i've checked with an older foxit reader installer (v9.7.2, newer versions do not include the virtual printer by default) to see if foxit reader pdf printer has the same behaviour but the foxit reader printer was not installed outside the sandbox. So it seems it depends on how the installer works.
