Got three updates but only two initially installed and then asked for a restart which happened in just seconds. KB4578968 .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 and Flash Player KB 4580325. When it came back from a restart, it started downloading cumulative update KB4579311 automatically. Restarted, took just a few seconds there, now winver for 20H2 is 19042.572. It would have been the ideal update had it not asked for two restarts.

So no, maybe not a "bork" in the classic sense, just a little different.

For me it installed all three with just one restart. Also at 19042.572 now. Strange those differences.... Windows sure works in mysterious ways.

I also got all three updates in one run. I also updated Office 2019 with no problems.

This started a couple of months or so ago. When ANY of the updates that requires a restart are finished you are prompted to do so despite the fact that the rest of them are still going. If you wait for them all to finish it will require only 1 restart.

Yup was about to say this. I wait until they are all fully installed and then bounce the machine.

Oh, OK, wasn't paying fullest attention.

OK, so I'm the bork, nothing new there. :)

Bork Tuesday broke the driver for my Epson V500 Photo scanner. Might be a good idea to make sure all your hardware still works after the updates.

My workaround: turn off network, restore pre-update Macrium image, run reg-file to disable WU, turn network back on. Emailed Epson that the most current driver on their web site doesn't work post-update.

Not sure if it's related to this or some other issue with the update:

I installed Windows Update KB4579311 today and have not seen any problems. I paused updates right after that so that H2 Oct update does not get installed the first day it gets released.

Today Windows warned me of a pending download of Version 2004 on a metered connection in 1909. Since I didn't particularly want 2004, I installed 20H2 from an .iso. No major concerns so far, but it has been popping up weird notices that Windows had to change a default app due to an unspecified problem. However, in none of those cases had I changed the default app (e.g., Edge for PDF).

That was quick! less than five minutes to install and be logged back into Windows.
