Perhaps a dumb question, but is it possible to install FIFA on my second drive? I just noticed that it needs 50GB of free space, but I haven't got this on my SSD. So will I be able to install it on my HDD? Or must these kind of games always run from C:\Program Files or the main OS drive?
If I recall, fifa uses origin. You can define the game install directory in origin settings. Generally speaking, games can run from any HDD partition or folder.
I thought you didn't need Origin when you install the game on disk? Just to make things clear, I currently have two disk drives (SSD + HDD). The SSD is used for Windows + apps, and the HDD is used for storage. I have only 20 GB left on the SSD, but I have plenty of space on the HDD. So will I be able to install it on the HDD (non OS drive), that's the question. But seriously, Electronic Arts has lost it, I've read they switched to a new gaming engine, so that's why they need 50 GB, and the game is delivered on 5 DVD's, it's insane. I think I will rather install FIFA 16, it only needs 15 GB of space.
I do not remember any recent EA game after 2013 which runs without origin installed. The reason for the disk space requirement is the frostbite engine, it stores massive amounts of texture data to drive improved graphics. You can install it on your HDD but first you need to define the game install folder in origin.
I forgot to mention that I bought the game on DVD. I suppose you don't have to deal with Origin then. However, I did notice that with FIFA 18 and 19 you get to see "digital download" on the DVD box, so apparently you have to download it or something. But anyway, I think I will now buy FIFA 16. I also wonder where the hell all of my disk-space has gone on my SSD, I will use the excellent WizTree to figure this out. https://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/Portable-WizTree.shtml
You seem to be right, I didn't install FIFA 17, but I did install F1 2017, and it will always load Steam during startup, this is stupid. Seems like PC gaming has been ruined by these idiots who came up with Steam and Origin. I think I will buy a Xbox.
In Steam, go to Steam menu -> Settings -> Interface and uncheck Run Steam when my computer starts. Then it won't load at startup anymore.
I think you misunderstood. Everytime you open the F1 2017 game, Steam will start in the background. And I'm guessing it works the same with all games that are offered on the Steam and Origin platform. Even when you install games from DVD-ROM. In general, my whole gaming experience on PC's have been ruined. Games are way too heavy and way too big. I wonder if Apple can make Apple Games a succes, by tackling all of these problems.
But it's certainly not specific to PCs. For example: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/red-dead-redemption-2-takes-up-a-ton-of-storage-sp/1100-6462634/
@Rasheed187 Today lots of games are delivered on DVD just to install some data and you have to get gigabytes of patches from your newly created mandatory steam/origin client. It's not like the old times where the whole game is on the DVD and no patches are required. Today it's either have a large drive or better don't want to have 20++ games installed at all times (depending of game type). I see Steam and Origin as some type of DigitalRightsManagment and better don't start with Steam games also protected by denuvo Maybe take a look at gog.com (goodoldgames) https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/ar...auncher-application-to-play-my-GOG-com-games- Since I'm not sure if that would still enable stuff like cloudsavegames (like the galaxy client from them) you have to find out for yourself
Yes it's getting ridiculous. I think game designers should go back to the basics. A game like FIFA 06 took only 3.5GB of space, and it's better than newer versions. Unreal Tournament doesn't even take up 1GB of space. I would advice Apple to slim down games for Apple Arcade. But anyway, what I meant is that with a dedicated gaming console I don't have to worry about my CPU and GPU getting fried. Yes I noticed it. Even after installing F1 2017 from DVD, it still needed 15 minutes to download stuff. I think I will stop buying games on DVD, it simply takes too long to install, so you might as well download it. And yes, I would rather use something like GOG. When you play games, stuff like Steam and Origin shouldn't need to run in the background.
@Rasheed187 with all due respect, dont mistake your opinion as a fact, you clearly dont know what you are talking about, are you still living in 2005? Steam saved the PC Gaming industry, it is hard to see a actual PC gamer that doesnt like Valve platform, it offers huge benefits for its consumers like automatic patch download, cloud save, Steam Overlay, pre-loading, huge discounts on promos, social gamer community, achievements, fast servers, software/hardware troubleshooting, screenshoot capture managment, TV mode (Big Picture), automatic controller detection and configuration, Linux gaming, Windows re-installation prove, Steam Workshop (easy game modding) and so on. GOG, Epic, Origin and many others are in the market because of the waves that Valve's Steam created, it made PC Gaming accessible, fun and cheap for millions. FIFA 06 better than newer versions? Again, dont mistake your opinion as a fact. About the installation in another drive, of course you can, those mentioned launchers allow the user to specify folders by demand.
Yes, that's exactly what it is, an opinion. It also has advantages, but's what's wrong with downloading games directly from websites and installing them, without the "help" of gaming platforms? You can't even seem to download demo's anymore without Steam and Origin. In certain ways, FIFA 2006 is indeed better than versions that were released later. For example, FIFA 07 and 08 were huge flops. And I'm also not impressed with the last few versions. But my point is, it's not always neccesary to improve graphics to a point that it will take up 50GB of diskspace and that you will need the biggest and baddest GPU's for the best performance.
@Rasheed187 As an ex_hardcore gamer, i can understand your point about game's size and the required hardware, but this is an expected eternal loop; better are the hardware, more possibilities the devs get to offer incredible immersion which will requires even better hardware. I stopped gaming more than 10 years ago, but when i look now at some game's graphics, they are incredible; i wish i had this during my gaming period. Before to get the best performance when playing Counter-Strike, i had to disable all effects of the games (anti-aliasing, shadow, etc...) and play in low resolution. Now with the actual hardware, i would'nt have to and enjoy the graphics. i wouldnt like to play today with PacMan-like graphics LOL
I'm also not an hardcore gamer, perhaps that's the problem. And graphics are important, but there has to be a balance. Like I said, I still enoy games like FIFA 06, Unreal Tournament and even Revolt. I just installed a demo of PES 2016 and was not impressed with game play, eventhough graphics looked good. BTW, I wish Windows could force games to be played inside a window, I hate it that most of them run in full screen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-Volt
I'm sure that the majority of people would disagree with you. I play Microsoft's Solitaire Collection in a Window, rather than making it run full screen. But for anything else (not that I'm really a PC gamer), I see no reason to run them in a window.
No way for me hahaha. When gaming, i need to focus on every details on the screen, especially on PvP, can't be distracted by blinking thing on the desktop.
Guys, I meant that it would be cool if you could always see (and hide) the Windows title-bar even in fullscreen, so you should always be able to resize the window.
