Though I am not currently using it, I do have a paid SD license.

This does not bode well . Would be a sad day if it has been discontinued.

    Regarding contact with supportATshadowdefender.com
It might be worth trying bugsAshadowdefender.com

I have had problems for many years with intermittent contact through email.
Most recent emails to Tony have gone unanswered over the last year or so.
I usually send Tony an email when there is an issue with Shadow Defender for someone on the forum, even if I don't mention it here, although I hardly ever get a reply.
My own thoughts that the email not being received and the current problem might have something to do with The Great Firewall of China being that Shadow Defender is a high level security application, although I've not asked Tony that directly for obvious reasons.
I read somewhere the other day that Chinese Government is currently having a crackdown on unlicenced vpn. Sorry I can't recall to cite.

'Here you need to understand that using any VPN in China, in general, is not prohibited, but unlicensed service providers can get up to 6 years in prison '

    aitch tee tee pee://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Firewall

ps I've just sent two emails. One to supportATshadowdefender.com returned undelivered and one to bugsATshadowdefender.com not returned undelivered yet. This was the content of my message

    'Hi Tony,
Members on the Wilders Forum have asked if you are
still developing Shadow Defender as they can not get through by email
and the email address seems blocked or not working?
I hope that you and your family are well and that everything is good
    for you.

    best wishes

    Patrick'

Does Shadow Defender play well with Chromebooks? If so is function and protection as smooth as it would be with my current setup of Windows 8.1? Thanks for the replies.

Can anyone reply to my inquiry?

As I mentioned in my previous posts, the serious problem of not being able to boot into Windows after a shadow session only happened after downloading a heavy file (7-10 GB) and committing it to the real volume. So far, using SD 'normally' e.g for browsing security, it has behaved correctly, but I would recommend imaging the system regularly, as bugs might increase with further major upgrades of Windows and no support from Tony. What a pity, I guess all things must pass...

After you mentioned this large file problem something happened that made me think.

    I use Shadow Defender 1.4.0.519
I was commiting seventy or hundred files...tifs. i can't remember the exact number and commit wouldn't work. The little box option didn't come up at all and it acted like I hadn't chosen commit at all. When I later commited only half the number of files and then the rest as a seperate commit it worked.
I have not had the boot problem like you but it seems that there is something about large files or bulk commits. I know that this is not a solution for you but I wonder if you had thought of a file cutter and commiting the larger file as smaller piece commits. I know that is a lot of messing about if you are commiting large files regularly. I'm just curious to know if that would work for you without causing the 'hang'. Just a thought, not much help I know.
Regarding Tony emails and absence etc. Tony has been away for very long periods of time before, completely uncontactable and then re-emerged as if nothing had happened, without explanation. During his absent period all sorts of conjecture arose and it was all very mysterious.
The only time that Tony was consistantly pro-active, communication wise, was at the very beginning of Shadow Defender development when he first started his own forum where I bacame Global Moderator but even then he wasn't massively active as he couldn't read English very well and told me that reading a page made his head hurt. I think that it was well over a year he was missing last time. I noticed though that over the years his communicational abilities, in terms of grammer and language etc became better. His website textual paragraphs need cleaning up a bit into English. He's obviously had some 'help' from someone who has created a stupid pretentious blurb about what Shadow Defender is and does and the benefits for business. I always laugh when I read it.
The Shadow Defender website seems to be up but there hasn't been a new version for while. The software is at a pretty high state of development and I don't hear many complaints these days but this large file problem is something that I'd like him to address for peace of mind.

    Patrick

Yes Patrick, I like to think that Tony’s disappearance is temporary and hopefully we’ll hear about him in the near future. SD is too good to abandon, I’m surprised no big player has offered to buy it, after all this would be a win win situation for everybody.

I am also convinced that big files and the commit function are related to the booting issue, and what I am planning to do is to transfer the files to an external USB drive and forgo the use of the commit function. We’ll see what happens.

I also would like to mention that lately my computer was taking too long to boot, I did not think much of it, but when I try to create a new image with Macrium Reflect (differential or full) the process would end up in error with 3 different USB hard drives. I thought this is very strange, Macrium R. has never failed the creation of a backup image, and therefore I restored the system with the latest image I had, and Macrium R. reflect this time worked perfectly in creating 2 differentials and a full image in different devices.

What happened? I think my computer was booting alright, albeit slowly, Macrium R. could not produce a proper backup image because the partition table was corrupted, therefore here we go again, SD was most likely responsible…

Info are not good but I think that we have next longer break in Tony's activity just like in the past. The domain of Shadow Defender is valid till 25.04.2019 so we should have hope that someone will prolongate it - this could be the sign that Tony will be active in "undefined future". Additionaly the second Tony's page - Xoslab.com - it's also active but till 28.07.2019 although there is no new version of EFL from years.

    BTW
here is the link to privat test - SD versus ransomware - published on MT...still no doubts :)

I'm not sure that I'd like a big player to take over Shadow Defender. They would probably make it into some sort of suite or include stuff that I don't want. I like that it is uncomplicated and 'succinct'. I like the idea of it being a one man eccentric genius show, even though that can be irritating and infuriating at times. Over the years Tony's response to bugs reports has been very prompt when he's available. Sometimes he has released a an updated version, when bugs have been reported, within hours after a major release.
He would re-release them as the same release number if caught quickly enough. What I mean is you wouldn't know that a bug had been found if you were not right there in the dialogue at the time as it wasn't mentioned generally.
I think that people have tried to muscle into and ride on his 'action' over the years and people pretending to be him but I imagine that Tony's inconsistancy of presence (in terms of communication) prevents them from getting grips in him.
I ran a forum for a while on Tony's behalf and with his permission but the web hosting that I had chosen let me down and made the site inaccessible. I used a 'free' hosting but these hostings will allow you to build up your site or forum then drop you into trouble by making the hosting and data suddenly unavailable without explanation or any way of rectifying the situation even though I had painstakingly backed up the database every day. It is no use when they become inaccessible to you.

Another way to bypass this large file problem is to just copy the file when you are in Shadow mode to an unshadowed drive two or three and then copy them back to what would be your normal shadow mode drive when it's unshadowed. Again, that is probably not the best solution and a Tony fix would be the best.

I tried it today It's just a dead site with a link I think. By 'dead', I mean, probably not used by anyone.

Exactly the same for me it is also (with Macrium) the base of my security and I agree with what @sdmod said above, I don’t want a big player to take over, they will kill it right away.:(

Well, just like times before, guess users/customers will still have your expertise Patrick to fall back on now that communication is gone dark with them. And it's been and still is very useful for many us that your consistency and own support is here to answer when someone drops a question or concern. As long as that help can be counted on for a response or solution, in spite of the absence from the developer, that still is a plus for everyone and I would go as far as saying especially for pre-Windows 10 users. We don't encounter much fuss or error due to Windows update changing something in our machines that introduce incompatibility issues and bite the system hard or just not work at all.

On 8.1, and yes even on (2) soon to be (1) Windows 10 units of mine, the Shadow Defender program works without problem.
But then I also have ceased all digital MS update activity once the system is tuned to perfection. Why fudge a good thing when it's performing at it's best right?

Yes, I suppose if that didn't work then nothing will work :)

I'll give it a test try and post back here.

ps I've just sent a message to sales@shadowdefender.com
    .........................

    'Hi Tony,
I've tried to contact you without success on your
    shadowdefender.com email addresses

    bugs@shadowdefender.com
    support@shadowdefender.com
    and even bugs@xoslab.com, admin@xoslab.com

None of them are working for anyone

Someone on Wilders is having a problem with Shadow Defender committing
large files. It is preventing him re-booting.
Here is a link to the page
    Link deleted by patrick/sdmod

and I find that when committing large numbers of files commit won't work.

I hope that you and your family are well

    best wishes

    Patrick'
