Yes, it will be used. It's too useful for too many players.

You just need to keep in mind that, whenever you leave safe space, you're being observed. And act accordingly.

That is, we must become intentional actors in our own lives.

There's this Landmark course, where you train with professional actors and acting coaches. Basically, so you can fake it 'til you make it. But also useful for OPSEC

That statement reminded me of Zuckerberg's notorious assertion about privacy. I didn't accept that, and I don't accept uncontrolled face recognition.

Of course, the technology has benefit, the fundamental problem right now for all informations systems is over-reach and a rational lack of trust in corporations and institutions who clearly are not aligned with my interests, and actively do not bear my costs, they shift the risk.

Acceptance is not approval. So what is, I accept. I do not approve of many things, this being one.

 

Same here - anyone who believes Zuckerberg after so much sneaky behavior and privacy invasions is beyond me, and yes about hats plus lets make those sunglasses reflective as well. I'm sure places like banks take a dim view (no pun intended) to wearing sunglasses though.

@zapjb The meaning of a word can depend on context. In this sense "approval" and "accept it" is one and the same.

For me, the main reason to block facial recognition would be for, say, buying a used computer for cash at a swap meet. So wearing flashy makeup or facepaint would attract far too much attention. Maybe if you were robbing a bank or whatever. But in that case, why not just wear a mask, balaclava, bandana, etc?

 

There's nothing good about creepy FR. People, lets get out all manner of hats, reflective glasses, wigs, tools to make false blemishes, whatever. Don't forget to alter your gait as well - OK easier said than done though - especially to keep it up for any length of time. Mmmmm what else?

 

It's hard to recognize faces of people with very black skin, under low-light conditions. Or people who have blackened their faces, as we see in the movies. So I can imagine black makeup that's 100% non-reflective across a wide range of wavelengths. But then there's millimeter-wave radar, which can be used to get shape, not just image. And how would one block reflection of that? Maybe whatever they use on stealth airplanes etc.

Totally in this same corner, BUT, what is the alternative? The face-profile recognition crap is spreading like a swarm of hungry locusts on a mission.

What do we do? Start changing hair styles, wearing wigs n masks, fake noses-eyebrows? This crap is too much effort and those dogs know that.

I hate it myself. Maybe we need a surveillance vigilante army. Just don't know what is a good remedy if any.
