We care. But you still haven't provided any info regarding what you are seeing. I have used many firewall and networking tools over the years, know how to use them, and am well aware of what my computer is connecting to. No point in implying that anybody that falls for a 'pretty' GUI is a nitwit. Maybe some experienced folks just prefer not having use a command prompt for everything. Knowing the difference comes with experience as well. All you have done so far is to post baseless allegations against the product. Step up or move on!
Is there a free version of this? I installed it not realizing it was only a 7 day trial. Is the paid version a one time payment?
Code: https://forum.glasswire.com/t/how-to-decide-which-edition-of-glasswire-i-need/4343 They offer free version, but they do not want people using it, so they do not even display comparison. Free version beats the whole idea of a firewall, it allows everything and you have to block it afterwards.
Looks like the free version won't be useful. It does show that there is a one time payment. All I'm looking for is a Windows firewall helper program to notify of outbound connections. Thanks a bunch.
Windows Firewall Control by Sphinx is pretty nice, but free version allows everything within Windows by default. Free Firewall by Evorim is fairly simple, just allow/block and it is supposed to work alongside of Windows Firewall. Lets not forget about Simplewall, but it might be problematic: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/simplewall-firewall.389491/
@Rasheed187 I only see two reviews. I liked the trial version but don't need all the fancy graphs. I would buy this if it was 1/4 the price. @TairikuOkami Thanks for the information. I will give these a try.
Yes correct, but I thought it was still worth to mention it, because the freeware version seems to be stripped from most useful features.
You can still use the GlassWire free version to audit your network connections, and block anything that you do not want to connect. I don't use the graphs, but the Firewall and Usage pages are very helpful. Something you don't get with the built-in Windows firewall. I have the pro version, but the only real advantage I see with that is that you have the 'Ask to connect' mode. But you can still use the 'Click to block' mode in the free version. It beats creating rules by hand in the Windows firewall.
I don't see any click to block option. Each time I click on a program it tells me to upgrade. I also see that there is no longer a one time pay option. It's changed to a yearly subscription.
$99.00 for a yearly subscription of the Elite version. There is no chance of me paying this yearly. Windows firewall will do.
Make sure your firewall is set to 'Click to block' mode. That should be the only mode available in the free version, as I recall. Click to Block. Click the fire icon next to the application you’d like to block from accessing the network, then click the app’s icon again to stop blocking. Colored fire icons mean the application is currently blocked.
I also upgraded to Elite with a recent offer ... TH, hope you are correct that existing licenses are still Lifetime - where can you confirm that? I don't see anything specific under 'About'.
I received a response from support: Where can I download the free version of Glasswire? Answer - Our software has a 7 day free trial at www.glasswire.com I suppose this answers why I can't get anything to work without showing an offer to upgrade. Are lifetime subscriptions still available to purchase? Answer - We no longer offer lifetime options... There was no mention of existing lifetime licenses.
